Default GH Perkins holters

I have been offered a GH Perkins holster. It's for my
Detective Special. Never heard of the company.

Can anyone tell me something about Perkins? Are (were)
they a quality leather company. Do their holsters exhibit
good craftsmanship and attention to detail?

Any information most appreciated,

Regards,
Dick

Let this old (retired) holster maker give you great advice: stick with an established maker, who's paid his dues and 'comes from a good family' (worked for a first-quality maker prior). Startup makers don't know what they don't know.

If Perkins was an oldie we'd have heard of him by now :-).

I don't know if GH Perkins had any association with Perkins Campbell, but the latter was apparently a US contract supplier during WWI. The Detective Special didn't come out until the mid-1930, so there's at least 20 years time difference.

The holster shown in this link appears black to me and and US leather goods were brown until the 1950's. This one could have been re-dyed or it could just be me. I am a bit colorblind.

Do you have any pictures? I have not heard of that maker but I'm not going to just assume he/they don't know what they're doing because of that.

Agreed mandatory pics would've resolved all this long ago :-). No pics = lots of well-intentioned guesswork.

I have a holster made by the Smith Bros up in Colorado.
It’s got an anvil image burned on the back.
May be the only one in existence.

Default GH Perkins

There is a GH Perkins holster listed on e-Bay currently (not mine). It looks like a well made holster.

Excellent sleuthing Papa Lee. Agreed it appears to be well made as to workmanship. Is it a 'good holster'? That is, does it do everything well that a holster needs to do? Can't tell from a pic. Certainly not cutting edge in design by being more 1940s Myres than 1970s Bianchi.

Some holsters and many other items were made and private labeled to be sold under made up names. Some examples are holsters marked Smith & Wesson, Colt, Browning. Gun names like Ted Williams, JC Higgins, etc .were never manufactured by that company - some were made by High Standard and Marlin.

Not saying the holster you are looking for isn't made by the GH Perkins Co. (if they really made holsters at all) but it is a possibility. Personally I never heard of them.

I wonder if they were a relative of Neale Perkins that started Safariland?
