It is no secret that I prefer the Sunday Scabbard to any other holster for my revolvers. I have even posted on forums looking for someone willing to build one for me. Most say it is too hard…not enough profit…you don’t really want one…etc. One fellow contacted me. He was interested. He read up on the design, studied images I sent him and even bought the book on them! I also shared with him some images I had and some advice I had learned. The revolver I carry is a Model 22-4, a fixed sighted, 4” N frame. The maker bought a form revolver but it had adjustable sights. That is not the correct model so he altered it to the correct dimensions!

Here is the result!

Here is the welt stack. He skived the individual layers so the would taper to the muzzle. Note how he polished the edge and shaped and burnished it well.

And an interior shot. He half lined the holder, skived the edge, dye it and stitched it in place.



All in all, I am very pleased. Mike is not a member of this forum or I would have asked him to post in this thread,

Kevin, that is a beautiful holster. I have a couple of Brill holsters, and wish I had a floral carved version. Unfortunately, they are very, very expensive! If that is Mike’s first attempt at a Brill style holster, that is unbelievable. The welt stack is one of the things that baffles some makers, I think.

I have been kinda studying your new holster. One thing that I noticed is the cuff. It may be a little high. The only reason I say that is because one of the first things that I look for on a Brill holster is the stitching at the trigger guard. I have always done that because the stitching there is one of the ways to determine if the holster is an early one or a later one. When I looked at your pictures, the stitching there wasn’t visible, because the cuff blocked the area. I tried to remember if I had ever seen a Brill holster where I couldn’t see the stitching there, and don’t remember one. Will your revolver remain in the holster if you turn it upside down? Maybe Red will chime in.

Thank you for your input. Yes, this is the first effort Mike has done on a Sunday Scabbard. I sent him a link to this thread when I started it because he wants to learn more about how to make it better. His next one will be better, as will the one following that. I am pleased to help him improve.

I am not a holster expert by any means, but I know what I like, and I really like that.

Only thing I would note is, to me, the toe would be more pleasing to my eye if it were rounded more.

But make no mistake: That is a beautiful holster and to my mind for a first try, wow, what a craftsman!

I mean the softly rounded shape where the body of the holster flows into the rounded toe — as seen below in Kansasgunner's Sunday Scabbard/Brill by Kluge — is more appealing to my eye than the sharper angle, straight/flat toe in Mike's first attempt:
