I believe I have seen this style of holster in black. It appears to be for a 2” K frame, either an M13 or the rarer model 56.

USAF Air Crew holster, for the M13 Aircrewman revolver. Usually black but also in brown.

They usually have a strap / harness with them.

odd model 13 Aircrewman style flap holster

Correct, and the shoulder strap to that holster is what Lee Harvey Oswald used to fashion a sling from for his 91/38 Carcano short rifle.... From what I remember, it baffled the Warren Commission where the sling came from for awhile until somebody figured it out.

That fact alone drove the prices of these rigs through the roof.

Have seen and used the Black.
Never actually seen the Brown.
Here’s a Thud Pilot wearing one.
SEA Early on, deployment probably from Wichita.

That's either an early Air Crewman holster or a reproduction. Most of the US military made the switch from brown to black leather in the mid-1950's. I've read that the USAF made the change around 1950. Older holsters that were serviceable were dyed black.

That one looks awfully clean for a 74 year old holster. I would expect at least some verdigris and corrosion on the hardware.

Must be an old one; maybe old stock, since it looks new. I say that because starting in 1956 all US military leatherwork had to be black.

An interesting discussion about the history of the strap and the USAF M13 holster in regard to the strap found on the Oswald Carcano rifle. I will make no personal comments about it. Oswald's rifle sling - an exercise in factoid-busting - JFK Assassination Debate - The Education Forum. Note the mention made about the Service Manufacturing Co. of Yonkers NY.
