Aha! one of my favorite threads...

Here's one I don't think I've posted before... a "U.S. NAVY" stamped Victory:

Hey John. What do you think was the idea behind the odd placement of the strap on the Hoyt holster that's holding the 1908? Never seen one of those.

Bobby, it's an early IWB holster, the strap snaps over the belt.
Linda, who made the 1st holster in your post- is that a Hardy holster?
Nice to see more of your fine leather as well.

John,

Sorry it took so long to get back to your question as to the maker. I realized I didn't have any pics of the backside and there's no maker's mark.

Here's a pic of the backside the holster.

Here's a Victory model in a vintage Audley holster, both acquired separately. The interesting thing is that the Victory has a very noticeable scratch or ding where the Audley trigger button rubs the triggerguard.

The only gun/holster combination that I can add to this thread is this Model 29 no-dash with a somewhat later period Bianchi 5BH high ride holster. This is my favorite hiking rig.

Some great guns and leather and fine photographers-art directors here. Here is my addition to this interesting thread. New Frontier is .44 WCF. 1st or 2nd year production and a later .38. Some odds and ends from the collections for atmosphere.

Thought while is was posting in another thread I would add this here. .357 Magnum 3.5" 1951 and H.H.Heiser bought this a while back, never posted it when I received it the strap broke right at the snap. So after spending good money Left it alone. Then I decided to at least repair the strap myself replaced the old with a new one. It is still a neat holster just not all original anymore.

Thanks Rusty

Here are a couple more.... two LEWIS "Police Special" K frame holsters, one's a 2" and the other 4".

I also thought I'd sneak in a COLT in with what looks like an Audley holster, even though it's not marked.

I plan on getting a 1911 this year and couldn't pass up the other day this Heiser holster in excellent condition. It's got "Colt Commander 45" penned on the backside, which helps date it to the first half of the '50s.

Back in the 1960's Bucheimer was a popular holster.

Here are 2 designs that were popular. The guns are a modified model 67 and a 3" model 49.

The second is marked Bucheimer Clark and Sheriff and is the Lewis design that Linda posted.
Both were usually worn in cross draw position. I believe the TV show Barney Miller's star wore
one of these Lewis or Bucheimer Clark holsters??

Here's what looks like a vintage Audley Holster with a .38 snub nose. The front is lightly carved with flowers. The backside is marked Phillipine Islands 1948.

The Bucheimer Semi shuolder Holster became a favorite of many of my gun wise friends, When worn with the snap on plate on the weak side it raised the gun into a shoulder holster position without the straps of a real shoulder holster.

I had to have one and when it came I wore it for a while but soon unsnaped the plate and wore the holster alone on the strong side using the belt loop of the original design.

Here's a cut from a 1958 Bucheimer catalog on the semi shoulder holster.

Heiser sold a similar design as well.

Very interesting to hear about actually wearing one, Jim. Thanks for posting that.

I once plopped down in a cheap strip club in Raleigh, NC and the horizontal slat on the back of the chair plucked my Model 19 2.5" out of a semi-shoulder rig pretty as you please and deposited it unceremoniously on the floor. The guy at the table next to me looked down at my gun, up at my face, then back towards the bar. He never looked back.
I wore a semi-shoulder rig often in the 1970's with a Model 19 2.5" barrel and occasionally a Chief's Special.
It was much easier to conceal a small pistol under a short coat or sweatshirt because you didn't have a couple inches of holster extending below the belt line.

Default Had to go get a couple out of the bank

so thought this combo should come out for a bit of spring time air.

Model 39-2, with ivory slabs and a nice old Tio Sam hunk of leather for it.

Some old gent was fashionable with this wonder 9, bottom stuffer, set up, back in the day.

Nice; hammerless holsters are not so easy to find. Carved & lined...
Is that nickel & ivory?

Thanks! The grips are some type of synthetic... Ivorex?

Yes, it's nickel. It came to me with a semi bobbed hammer so the strap on the holster is perfect!

Thumbs up

This has to be one of my all time favorite threads - great guns, great leather, and great photographs. Keeping it at the top with this well-used K-22 Outdoorsman with a well-used shoulder holster:

The only old holster I have came with a Savage 1907.

Since there have been a few likes on this one here is a pic of the Savage out of the holster.

I've posted this before, but I'm happy to show it off again. 1940 38/44 OD and a Heiser

and as close to a BBQ rig as I have (for now, anyway)

I had forgotten about this thread, glad to see it resurface. One thing nice about getting old is that if you haven't seen something in a while it is like looking at it for the first time.

Speaking of old.............here is a 1914 US Springfield Armory 1911 with a 1918 dated holster.

It was caught while fishing in Big Bear Lake in California in 1962. It still had a fully loaded magazine and except for the barrel, trigger, springs, grips and safety, it is all original. While the outside is rather rusty, the inside has no pitting at all.

Nothing fancy here. just an old flap holster holster and a 6" 32 RP.

And here's a double stamped Iver Johnson that is a perfect fit for my 3 1/4" 38 new departure.

My '08 Pocket Hammerless .380 and a Ted Blocker IWB. This gets carried occasionally.
The Elgin started life as a Ladies brooch-style hunter cased watch in 1912. Runs great, but I never wear it to work. It's a weekender only.

Default This thread needs to come back up,........

............thanks to Greg for linking it in another thread.

Not really old Iron but it is getting there. Thanks to one of the great Forum members for allowing me to be the temporary caretaker of one of Tio Sam's leather masterpieces.

The BHP decided one hot afternoon back in the late 70s to switch from the bad guys side to the side of Law & Order, with a little persuasion from a Model 66.
