I asked the Websters what vintage means. They say old, recognized,
quality, important, and of enduring interest. Here are 5 more that I
believe fits that description:
1. Myres #614 floral carved Threepersons carrying my S&W model 27,
belt by Haugen, and knife by Bear.
2. Myres #624 floral carved Threepersons with retention strap and
hammer protector hosting my S&W Model 67 Combat Masterpiece.
Belt by Sparks, and knife by Benchmade.
3. Heiser #757 floral carved Threepersons in oxblood with my S&W
Model 10 along for the ride. The belt is by Simply Rugged and the
knife is from S&W.
4. Heiser #759 small floral carved Threepersons style with a vintage
Charter Undercover. (Sorry, none of my little Smiths have hammers)
The belt by Haugen, and the knife by Puma.
5. Wally Wolfram's Blazer with a Taurus model 94. Belt from Haugen,
and knife from Marbles.

Just call me "The Searcher". My Model 10-5 shown here was issued to
plain cloths detective on the Boise PD back in the 60s. In 1968 Lawrence
came up with what they called the "Special Agent". It appears to be
a "plain jane" holster. This specimen is a 34JV F.B.I. style quick-draw
holster with a hammer guard to protect jacket lining from the hammer
spur. It is lined with smooth grain saddle leather. The outside is from
imported pig skin.
For some reason I felt like I had to have one for the Model 10. So I
searched. I advertised in the Wanted forum. I sent flyers to gun shops.
I even called Bill Lawrence (George's great grandson, who ran Lawrence
at the time they sold to Gould & Goodrich.) Well the Bible says "search
and you will find", and I finally found.

Circa. 1976 for both holster and Model 64. Handmade pancake holster by a fellow police officer back in the day. Have had them both since that time. Still my favorite concealed carry outfit. Two items that will never be sold!

I went from a single Brill holster to three Brills in less than two months. Thought I was happy with one and wasn't really looking for any more but they just "accidentally" happened along.
Sneaked up on this Brill for a Colt Single Action Army with 4 3/4-inch barrel at the San Angelo gun show back in July. Just now had time to take a few photos.
Less than two months before, a Brill for a Colt Government Model came to roost. This photo was taken on a day when I actually put it to use toting a Colt to town ... just to try it out, you know. It really needs to be photographed with a '47 vintage Government that's around here, but the modern stainless steel juxtaposed with the old leather did come off looking appealing somehow.

I like pretty much every Brill holster I've ever seen but I think those for 1911s are the most handsome 1911 holsters ever made. Great find.

I know what you mean! I guess I got some vintage underwear around here too, if the 70's is vintage!!
I think 1Aspenhill was more referring to the gun, ivory, and ammo as vintage.

It's cute!
It was free!
But, what does it fit?
Nope.
Ahhh ... just right.
Albeit holster length would accommodate a 5-inch New Pocket more perfectly than this 3 1/2-inch variant.
Did security at the San Angelo gun show this past weekend. The show promoter had taken this holster in a box of stuff that an exhibitor who had set up Friday night had traded him. Monty was speculating what it fit. On Friday night, I had suggested that perhaps a Smith & Wesson J or I frame, allowing that it was mighty small and might fit an even smaller revolver.
Thought to bring an I-Frame Smith & Wesson .32 S&W Long and also a Colt New Pocket .32 Long Colt along when I arrived on Saturday afternoon. The tiny Colt fit. Monty chuckled and said: "You gotta a gun that fits it. It's yours."
The vintage holster exhibits really fine design and workmanship. The tooling is very artistic and pleasingly executed. Never saw this style tooling before. Except for the obvious length, the New Pocket fits perfectly. No maker's mark may be discerned though a rectangle may be faintly detected when examining the back of the holster. A rectangle such as might contain a Myres mark or even a Brill? An examination at the show had me convinced that I could discern an "L" where the last "L" of Brill would be and also a "U" where "AUSTIN" would fall on the second line. An examination in the sunlight with a magnifying glass today when I photographed the holster was inclusive though.
The holster saw use. Someone bored a hole at the bottom for a tie-down and also cut "DW" initials at the bottom of the backside of the holster.
I'm kinda enthused about the holster because it is so nicely made. Anyone seen anything like it? Any design similarities to familiar makers? What about the tooling? Can anyone suggest another revolver for which the holster could have been made?
The area with the "imagined" faint maker's mark.

Nothing is free. It may have appeared to have been free, but now, of course, you are going to have to find exactly the correct gun that it was crafted for and then buy it.
Is it possible that it was built for an autoloader? Something like a Woodsman?? I'm trying to visualize that, without much success.
Best Regards, Les

Initials could be a stylized "PW" also, but no way to know. I recently acquired a basketweave stamp that could do that, but I hadn't thought of putting the stamps together that way! If my stamp will do that, I'll get back to you. Interesting. I'd never seen that particular imprint either.

It regularly housed a revolver in its past life as there are ample marks and impression of cylinder flutes and outline.
The only Woodsman that lives around here is a six-inch which won't fit.
Really, the holster accepts and holds the Colt New Pocket as it it was constructed with dimensions for that model revolver. My New Pocket is a 3 1/2-inch. The 5-inch variant would likely be perfect.

Well, there you go, then: I'll keep my eyes open, and let you know if I see one for sale. Can't let that beautiful piece of leather go un-filled!!!
Seriously, that is a cool and unique holster with a beautiful pattern to the stamping. Nice find!!

507 is the model number, it doesn't provide size information. My guess would be a medium frame DA revolver. The holster was made prior to WW II
and is an unusual model not often seen in.basketweave finish.
Look on the back with a strong light and you might find inked or etched information such as OP, AS or MP which would indicate Official Police, Army Special or Military & Police. It looks like a 6" barrel. You can feel where the cylinder ends inside the holster and measure for the barrel size. It is a very fine unusual Heiser

turnerriver

A. Stelzig Saddle Company
Here's a nice vintage holster simply acquired because of the interesting geometric tooling. I have no idea of the holster's age. The maker's mark was used from 1926 to sometime in the 1980s. An interesting history of this Texas concern can be found in this link: [url=http://www.vintagegunleather.com/company-marks/stelgiz_history.html]A. Stelzig Saddle Company History and Maker Marks - www.vintagegunleather.com
I'd thought it was a bit too long for 4-inch Smith & Wesson K-Fames (my favorite K-Frame barrel length by the way) so poked the only 5-inch K-Frame into it to find the perfect fit. Gun is likely much older than the holster is, the revolver's serial number being 50200-and-something which should date it to 1904.
A close-up shot showing detail of the work.
I have no idea how old this holster is and there's nothing on the internet outside of the above link to provide a clue on the holster's age, but it's a great holster with leather of outstanding quality.

Turnerriver ,
An 5" MP fits but seats a tad deep leaving the strap hanging in the air above the trigger guard by 1/4" . My Officers Model Target 38 does not seat completely but is close . Maybe a standard Officers Model ? The scrappy looking Hunter that came with it cleaned up and looks like a completely different holster. I fits the MP perfect but will need the hold down strap and snap that's missing replaced.

Here's my latest pickup.... great for a Tex-Mex BBQ !
Early post war M&P, pearl steerhorn grips with ruby eyes and a 1920's style piteadao holster. The design stitching on the holster is done with metal bullion thread.

Great Scot, that looks like some very intricate, time consuming work! For a holster that is almost 100 years old, it looks brand new! Awesome picture, BTW.

Thanks! I think the style is 1920's but looks like it might be vintage 1940-1950 based on the the outer lacing (looks like plastic to me).
Any thoughts on age on this one?

Here's an older Jay Pee holster, from Greenblatt, NYC. What's interesting about this holster, it has a previous owners name scratched on the back, Geo. Anderson U.S.B.P. and also and added hammer flap sewed on and it's also stamped "Chas. ????, MAKER, and I think El Paso, Texas. This last stamping is worn, right where it folds over the hammer.

That would be Chas Bluemel, another saddler/holster maker.

They may be "no names", but I'd sure like to know the maker of the one on the right. Really nice

It's probably Mexican made. Maybe by Reyes. It is a lot like
Reyes work, but not exactly.

I know that I have posted this stubby before, but I don't guess it made it into this thread.
Pre-war model 10 with a Myres Barton Special which turnerriver was gracious enough to part with.

VaTom, Any chance you could post a picture of this with the pistol in the holster? It looks like a neat rig. Thanks

Not a Smith but it is vintage . Serial #5855 Ruger Blackhawk 1955 model . The first cartridge firing handgun I ever shot . The holster is a Eubanks Pioneer of the correct vintage and marked for this Ruger . Grips and grip frame are not original but I have managed to track down the originals so they will eventually go back on it .

Eubanks 922 and my 34-1 that got run over by my F100 while I was underneath it trying to unstick the shifter rods . Scared the **** out of me when it rolled back but I was really scared when I realized that the left front tire was on top of my coon light belt and 34 . No damage to anything but the seat of my overalls !

And you're sure an N frame won't fit in that holster? Is that the one that's marked OM6?
