S.D. Myres - Sweetwater, Texas
We attended the Dallas Gun Collector Show this past weekend. Some interesting pieces...lots of the same... BUT I did meet and visit with Dave Duclos of "S.D. Myres Saddlery" Sweetwater, Texas. I was very impressed with the quality of his holsters but even more with his detail & committment to providing a quality product. Holster & belt on the way (I hope)...currently 4-5 weeks away.

S.D. Myres or S.D. Myers? Is "Myers" his real name or is he trying to sound like Tio's old operation? Or is this fellow actually Myres?

I noticed those. Was wondering what the story was. While they were nice holsters, they were definitely not the quality of the originals.

I've seen his work, which impresses me as being about on par with that of El Paso Saddlery.
But I've heard that he has delivery problems. Does anyone know more?
Is he related to S.D. Myres, or did he just buy the name?

Just so you know, he scammed a bunch of my friends back in 2004. They made a group buy of a large number of holsters. As far as I know, he has never delivered one and avoids the gentlemen when they inquire of it. Most all of them have given up. If you want to know more, I can direct you to those who were impacted. I did not participate in the deal and am glad I didn't now. He will not see a dime of my money.

Yep.. I'm one of the people he stole from.
I think 4 years is long enough time to wait, it's safe to say I was robbed.

There were a few deliveries, but for the most part no leather goods. IIRC, one the buyers is a retired a lawyer and only got his order after threatening to sue.

Yeah, very bad memories. It started as a big internet group buy, a special stamp was made to identify the holsters and it was pitched as a way to help him get his business started - any fledgling business would love to get a bunch of orders to start. I had to look it up again, but July 29, 2004 wrote a check out to S.D. Myers Saddle for 258$ for a belt and holster. The check got cashed, but never received the holster or belt.
To be fair, I understand his son had a life threatening illness just after the orders were made. Most of us didn't start to press for delivery until a year had passed, and only a few ever got their holsters. Now he acts as if none of it ever happened; and it sounds like he is trying to start again. Hope he treats his new customers better, but I am NOT going to be buying anything from him again.

I happened into his shop in Sweetwater a couple of years ago. Purely an accident. I walked out a couple of hours later with a beautiful floral carved holster for one of my N-frames. The price was right and the workmanship was outstanding.

Guys, you definitely want to fight shy of this "gentleman". For any of you that thought you got good deals, maybe the low price was financed by money he kept from orders never delivered. (And Mr. Rabbit, this is not directed at you personally, sir!) I just hate to see folks doing ANY kind of business with a dishonorable man.
Y'all take care!

I am another one of the folks that trusted this thief. I sent a check for $236 IIRC and never received a thing other than a run around.
Mr McDermott, I along with almost all the others that ordered holsters from him gave him a pass when news of his son's Leukemia surfaced. Unfortunately, he used that (maybe subconsciously)
to "forget" to make our holsters.
I believe that was a mistake.
In 2004 I was going through the last year of my son's terminal illness, and still managed to get up and go to work every day. Believe me I'm not a Superman or anyone's hero, just a guy that accepts responsibilities. Mr Duclos obviously is NOT.
I would not trust this man any farther than I could throw him, and my arms aren't long enough to reach from Michigan to Sweetwater Texas.

Oh yes, he is a capable holster maker. One of the best holsters I have ever seen was made by him. But he is no craftsman, nor would I suggest anyone do "business" with him.
Because, according to our group on sixshoootercommunity, there is something like a 90% chance that rather than receiving a fine holster for your $110 to $250, you will instead be cheated, swindled, deceived, screwed, and ignored. = bupkus, for your hard earned cash. A kick in the shorts, a poke in the eye. Like a crack about your mom by a coworker whose butt you saved when you thought he was "hardworking and honest, and just needs a break".
Then, four years later, just when you decide to "move on", this lowdown &^%&^*&^ might resurface with a new story and a new group of marks .
The choice is yours!

Did it look like this?
If so, it's part of the big group order. I was one of the lucky few who finally got mine after months of excuses.

Now you've got us all curious. Could you describe the holster, or the pattern by any chance? Many of them were semi custom in what we wanted, style, tooling etc. Now we're wondering... was it later sold by one of the few who received theirs?
Or did he actually did make some of what we bought and paid for, only to sell it a second time to third parties.

Yes it is.
BTW, Patton's SAA/RM war rig was made by Myres.

As one of those Sixgunner folks...I'm STILL waiting for my Holter, Belt, Cartridge Slides and Ammo Pouch for my Sixgunner.com Reeder Custom .44 Mag Ruger. Mr Duclos took my money for those products and to date has neither delivered the products nor my money back.
No word, NADA, even to the point of refusing registered mail. I had included photocopies of my processed check where HE HAS MY MONEY and no product forthcoming. No ethics in that one.
He was long ago added to the short list of folks whom I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire. Be a waste of good used beer.
There were a few folks who were basically local to Sweetwater, who managed to get their product, albiet very late. Those of us not able to get close enough for long enough to hound him are basically SOL.
He should get NO good press, on this board or any other.
Yes Lawandorder, that was SOMEONE'S holster from the group buy that was never shipped to its OWNER.
I sent him $355 and never saw anything for it.

Lucky, I guess
I ordered one of his holsters at the Dallas Gun Show. I got mine after about a year or so. I also had the advantage of being able to "stop by" his shop on my way to Lubbock. I went in ever time it was open. It is a nice holster but you can get a pretty good one delivered from El Paso Saddlery.

Just reading through...
I don't really know what to say, other than "I would presume that a man who regularly dealt with obviously armed customers would have better manners..."
It just makes me sick to think that he betrayed the confidence and trust of a whole community, who were in all respects trying to help HIM.....I guess the moral fiber of our society is declining.....I am glad to see that so many people were willing to help a small businessman get rolling....I am truly saddened to think that they would be unwilling to do so again based on their experience with this cretin.

Oh, I think most would help someone else; hope springs eternal. However, this jerk Duclos ought to get a job somewhere, for real.
Potential is nice; reality is great, when it comes to delivering the goods.

Well, I hope you are all happy now. He had a stroke in December from clots that he has had for years and has been sick (mentally and physically) for God knows how long. He is now in a nursing home with slim chance of recovery. Better he suffer out his death so he can think of everything he's ever done wrong in life than just have it be short and sweet, right?

I do recall a controversy surrounding this company back about ten years ago when I was still very active in cowboy action shooting. I'll just stick to El Paso Saddlery, thank-you-very-much.

I thought that S. D, Myres became the "Old El Paso Saddledry" Company.....and they ripped me off for a Tom Threeepersons Holster for my Ruger Super Single Six.......I'll never do business with them again,. and will advise against doing business with them.......Now-a-days, if I want a fancy carved holster, I'll find someone I can actually put my hands on.......figuratively and literally.....

S.D. Myres never turned into or became the El Paso Saddlery, they were two distinct companies. Dave Duclose did some very nice work when he worked, a very good friend ordered a belt and had to hound Mr. Duclose for a year or two to get it. I also know a number of people including members here never received what they paid for.
I believe Mr. Duclose actually worked for a previous iteration of the Myres company but I don't know how or even if he obtained the rights to the name.
I also don't believe that anyone here is happy to hear he is suffering. Being angry over getting ripped off is a far cry from taking pleasure in another's suffering. We all suffer at one time or another in one way or another. As the new moderator of this section I've been very pleased with the tone and content so far- please let's all do our best to keep it that way. The open exchange of information and discussing the enjoyment of our mutual interests is enough to keep us all occupied.
Thank you all for a successful launch to the gun leather section and let's enjoy what we do here.
Regards,
turnerriver
