Default Hip Replacement

Got my new hip put in yesterday morning and so far I am almost pain free. I turned on the morphine pump five hours after surgery and have only used it four times since. I am able to hit it every six minutes, but don't need it so far. Dr.'s and nurses are great so I guess I am blessed. The broth and jello even taste good. Have a great day Forum Friends.

I had both hips replaced the same day two years ago this past August 7th, glad to hear that the surgery went so well for you. The most important element of a good outcome is following the orders of your doctor and your physical therapist. They'll have you medicate one hour before your therapist comes to visit and ice your hip for twenty to thirty minutes after each exercise session. It is important that you do the exercises that the physical therapist shows you, you'll exercise twice a day. At first you'll need assistance moving your leg the range of motion your therapist instructs you to. It is important that you do in order to regain full range of motion. I continued to improve for a year after my surgery, the second year I regained flexibility allowing me to put my socks and shoes on and to enter and exit my car as I had previous to surgery. Good luck with your continuing recovery.

Great report... glad to hear it's going well for you.

Sounds like you should be ready to "double-time" pretty soon.

Thanks for the advise and support, you are soooo right. I had both knees replaced in "01" and found all the above to be very true.

Glad to hear everything went well. I do believe however that you are still under the influence of morphine for you to even think that anything in a hospital tastes good! Listen carefully for the PA announcement.."due to a mix up in the lab, we will not be serving apple juice this morning!

Great to hear! I'm also a big believer in attitude. If you go in expecting the worse, and a lot of pain, that's what you'll experience. Or at least "think" you do. Positive thoughts and a positive attitude go a long way to a positive recovery!

lol. When a dear friend had her kidney transplant, I would visit her most every day. More than once I had to ask the nurse "what IS that?" when her dinner tray was delivered. Some things looked pretty good, but some were, well, hard to describe!

I plan on having a hip replacement in about six months. I'll have about three weeks off from work. This should work out...right?

John, I wish you well with your new "piece".
Get well and hope we can get together again real soon.
It's a shame I can't replace what I have.

I have heard of people being told that they would be back to work in several weeks after hip replacement, in my case having both hips replaced at the same time I did not return to work until three months. The doctor would have written orders for four months if I had not felt ready after three months.
