Default Gun case on "Andy Griffith Show".

They show the gun rack in the background quite often, but not for long, and I've never been able to identify them.

Just curious if anyone else has noticed and can I.D. any or all of them?

They are whatever was available to the prop dept. Andy Taylor was dead set against the need to carry a gun, although he is shown on occasion with one.

Good call on the Marlin. You can clearly see the bullseye in the stock!

Checked the movie gun data base
and Andy was shown with the Model
97 and also a Win. Model 12 in
shotguns. Whether in the rack,
don't know.

I have occasionally identified what was in the Mayberry Sheriff gun rack and used to mention to my spouse how nice it would be to have that Winchester or Remington in the rack and of course she has to hear about it when a Springfield 1903, M1 Garand or M14 appears on the screen. She lovingly tells me to shut up.

The lever action looks like a .22 to me. Muzzle is kinda small. Also, in the rack you can see the loading port in the tube magazine.

Not in the gun case, but I saw Andy shooting a high grade Krieghoff O/U,
mod. 32. The sheriff was doing pretty good.

I never watched, partly because it isn't the sort of show I view, but also because I understand that Andy Griffith was pretty mean-spirited in real life and an anti-gunner.

I also thought the show made a mockery of real cops.
