Why do Cowboy Action Shooters load one - shoot one with their pump and lever shotguns?

SASS Rules prohibit loading more than two rounds at any one time. This was to make the 1897 equal to the SxS. However some folks can load single rounds in their '97 faster than loading two at a time.

Some events allow you to Stoke the '97, however main match rules prohibit it.

OK...thanks for that info, been bugging me for some reason when I see them on TV. It is amazing how fast those guys (and gals) can load one and shoot then load/shoot another.

Looks like a fun idea Rolan. You don't mind if I steal your idea, eh?

Just how thick does black poly have to be before it works as a backstop?

Egads! A social faux pas without doubt nor excuse. I must apologize personally unto fair lady for such an indiscriminate, careless remark.

Notify her handmaiden tout de suite so that arraignments may ne'er suffer delay, for time is of the essence, lest I risk being considered a rake about town of dubious intentions.

That is the same stuff, but in a different color, Superman used for his cape. I use to employ that stuff to prevent "Gamers" from watching or to pre-plan how to shoot the Stage.

Shooting the Stage Cold is a lot more interesting then having all day to scope it out.

Well, that really says a lot about my attention to detail.

Being prominently displayed in the center and forefront of the first pic, albeit w/back turned, I couldn't miss her.

Two pics later she's stuck in the corner & I'm eyeballin' the targets.

I'm gonna have to work on my recognition qualities a might I reckon...

IMHO, that is a terrible habit to get into, and why I won't shoot a pump gun at "regulated" cowboy match.
I shoot a single barrel. Full power black powder loads too- they'll blue your shoulder!

Remember the old adage "practice makes perfect?"
If a person loads one at a time and practices this always on his old Marlin or Winchester '97 pump hammer gun, five will get me ten that the same guy will do this with a Remington 870 at a three gun match or when he's trying to protect his home or property.

I just don't think, even in the name of cowboy action or SASS that bad habits should be encouraged. It's better to just not shoot the discipline than to get in a very bad habit. Same way I think "mouse fart" loads aren't in the spirit of things.

I'm all for safety, and that's something that can't be compromised upon. That's why I'd rather shoot a cowboy themed IDPA match with cowboy guns and garb than a regulated cowboy match which incorporates things such as reloading on the clock. (They'd never do that in a cowboy match!) Match rules would be a a bit more liberal- but not the safety rules. I'm thinking a 3-gun match cowboy themed would be better too.
