totally agree on the watch habit. it's worse than guns. imo the swiss army watch are excellent for their price if you like the style. got enamored with breitlings a few years ago.

Another Casio G-Shock. I've had it since 1990 and it's still on the same battery. Gains a bit but easily reset.

Thumbs up

I've had a Wenger , makers of the Swiss Army knife , for 9 years now. Got it from Sportsmans Guide. I'm not gentle with it and it's held up perfectly. Needs a new battery every 3 years or so.

My bad. I should have said , since I had my watch serviced and set It has only lost 2 seconds. I also set mine with the atomic clock. I have never had good luck with a digital watch but then I have not had one in over 20 years.

[QUOTE=WC145;1163222]I've been wearing an Uzi Protector for several years and it's been great. It's very rugged, water resistant to 200 meters, has tritium inserts where you need them, and is very accurate. Plus the price is reasonable.

Rubber Strap

What ia the difference between a Defender and a Protector model? Sportsman's Guide has both at the same price.

The Defender has tubes on every hour marker whereas the protector has them only at the 3,6,9, and 12. Also the Defender has a luminescent marker on the bezel.

If you want a tube watch you should look at Luminox and Traser as well. They are a bit more money but have brighter tubes and are Swiss made not China made from Swiss parts. A few models can be found on the gray market under 100 dollars. Then of course just for fun the ultimate tube watch is a Ball, but then Ball watches are very expensive.

It is good to know that I am not the only Gun and Watch Nut around. I thought I was the only compulsive personality around. That can't be true or there wouldn't be watch and gun forums...whew i thought it was just me. Now about cars????? or hand made western boots, now that's another story, ever heard of Rios, Lucchese, Weinkauf, etc. etc. Heck I just turned 71 last month I don't know why the heck I get wrapped up with things that are destined to out live me. I guess POTUS won't try to outlay watches or boots.

Yeah, watches, cars, and guns - these are a few of my favorite things.

As far as purchasing advice, I second the many Seiko recommendations. I have a $250 Tissot made of titanium that runs great and super accurately. Also have an old Casio digital and an Omega Seamaster. The Omega was way overpriced but I just had to have it because I thought it was so cool. It is the most easily readable watch I have ever seen and it seems stylish.

At one time I was a watch fanatic (WIS = Watch Idiot Savant, I think they call it?) and lived on those forums. I eventually lost interest in watch discussions or maybe didn't have enough time for it. Guns, however, are an interest I feel will continue to my grave.

I've got two Armitrons. One is about 35 years old and just won't die. I use it for work, especially dirty or messy stuff, and it just keeps on going. It looks bad anymore so I bought another one about 10 years ago and use that one for "good". Just change the batteries every couple of years and they keep perfect time. Last I knew WalMart was selling them for around $80.00 and they always have sales.

Casio G-shock. Mine has both analog and digital displays.

$60.00 is what I paid a couple years ago and I wear it every day.

I've got two Citizen Eco Drives. One I wear daily and to work, the other, only on weekends. Put a new crystal in the daily watch, and have to tighten the clasp occasionally, but other than that, both are flawless. My Dad has a wind up Wittnauer that my mother bought him as a wedding present in August of 1967, and it runs great too. I didn't realize until a few years ago that a basic wind up watch is out of the question these days. My wife tried to buy me a wind up Timex, and the chick at the Wal Mart jewelry counter looked at her like she had grown another head. Guess she wasn't born yet when they quit making 'em.

Thumbs up Timex

My wife gave me a nice Citizen Eco-Drive Skyhawk a few years ago. Its proven to be quite durable and accurate. I believe it is "atomic" also. I wear a Timex Expedition watch that I bought at Walmart for around $30 about 5 years ago. I like the Indiglo nightlite on it and the hands are luminous. The battery has not needed to be replaced either. I wear that one whenever I don't want to scrape up a good watch. I also have another Citizen Eco-Drive with diamonds arond the face of it. I almost never wear it. I don't know what I was thinking when I bought it. I never dress up and got rid of all the suits and ties after I retired 7 years ago.
