When I was 40 I tried to kill myself. Not in any of the usual ways, gun, rope, poison, etc.. I started "dating" a 22 yr. old girl. I actually was the one who ended it after about 6 mos.. I decided I didn't want to die after all.

I think it was Betty White that said:
"The one thing I hate about Middle Age is that you outgrow it!"

Naw, 40 ain't old at all. At 62 I have to agree with that song "I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was". Enjoy where you are right now, every age is its own chapter.

Interesting...I too sleep only about 5 to 6 hours per night. It works for me. :-)

I am 66 and I refuse to grow up. My wife will attest to that, I still go to the gym a few times a week. I usually go to bed around 2AM and get up around 9-10AM. I have slowed down a bit but I am still rolling.
I do suffer from a condition that I call AAADD. Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. My doctor liked the term and said that he is going to use it.

Yesterday I somehow got appointed to take our atv club on a 50 mile hard trail ride. Outside of my young wife, I think the 8 ATV`s with about 13 people were all retired with probley me at 70 the oldest. Everyone done great on some very rough trails. One woman was very small and I would judge her to be in her early 60`s. She had her own quad, at the start of the ride told me she was "timid" and might turn back. I encouraged her and she done as well as any of us and loved it!
Granted, I am fat and out of shape and I wouldnt want to walk out if I suffer a breakdown, but probley can teach kids how to ride some of the rough stuff.
Your basic likes doesnt change with age. The same stuff I liked when young I still like. I never was ambitious to start with, so for me things havent changed a lot. I always did a lot of recliner time.

Forty is the greatest age to be, ya still young enough to be in a 'empire building' mode and
aged enough to stop making the same mistakes more the twice.
After fifty it's all down hill...Only the grade just keeps on gettin a little steeper at every turn.
A young man sez what he's plannin to do...An old man tells ya what all he's done
and reflects on all the things he wishes he had or should have did.
Live it to the max...Tain't no second go arounds!
Su Amigo,
Dave

I'm 67 and just now feeling the age - not physically, but mentally. I've been a devoted chess player since grade school, and after a year away from the chess board, I can barely remember the moves, much less develop a game plan. It hurts.

Two of my favorite quotes on old age:
"Inside every old person is a young person wondering what the heck happened."
"Old age ain't for rookies."
I'm not that old, and I still can't believe I'm as old as I am. I figure I'm okay as long as I keep that attitude.

I am 68 and heat my house with wood because I want to. That means I cut and split ten cords of wood every year, by hand. I have a 12 lb sledge and maul and swing them with gusto. I enjoy the work very much but some days I come in to the house with my shoulders screaming in pain. They never use to do that. So now my wife and daughter are on my butt about getting a hydraulic splitter. They say I should act my age. I'm fighting them because I need the exercise. I've saved a ton of money on gym memberships. David

W.C. Fields summed it up best, "getting old is a bitch, but it beats the alternative."
Your still a kid, I turned 63 last Sunday. I have a dislocated shoulder that never healed properly, a torn rotator cuff, and a twitchy left knee and I'm still, fairly, active. I.e. walk daily, play "old mans" tennis several times a week , and shoot several times a month.
Enjoy your life young man.

Try the long Fiskars splitting axe. I have one- it's a lot lighter than a 12# maul and splits well.

What was it Satchell Paige said-"How old do you think you'd be if you didn't know how old you was?" I will be 62 in a few days, feel like I am 40 and can usually pass for it. One of the nicest compliments I ever got was when I was taking Tae Kwon Do years ago. A women-who was 15 years younger-said "I wish I had your energy." In my case, I did take care of myself, something I highly recommend.

Like the orthopedist told me - Aleve (naproxen) is your friend.
For me it's shoulders, elbows and wrists. The Aleve really does make a big difference
