I happened upon a 1985 copy of Skeeter Skelton's "Handgun Tales," a magazine compilation published by Shooting Times. I've had a copy of the 1980 "Skeeter Skelton on Handguns" since the late 80's and I've read it cover to cover many times. When I saw "Handgun Tales," I just had to have it and I paid through the nose for it too.
It has some stories and articles that aren't already in Skeeter's two books or the '85 compilation.
I also picked up some 1968-69 copies of Shooting Times with some great stuff written by Skelton that I don't remember reading before.
When I bid on the '85 magazine, the seller also had an autographed copy of Bill Jordan's "No Second Place Winner" so I figured I'd save on shipping if I won the book too. I got the book for a song and it even came with a hand typed letter (mailed August 7, 1967 with a 5 cent George Washington stamp) to the original owner of the book that included a quick hand written comment by Jordan at the bottom as well).
I've only read the Introduction and the first chapter, but I must say I got several belly laughs out of the first few pages. If you haven't read this book (like me), I highly recommend it. Skelton and Jordan both have that down home, southwest manner of speaking and writing that is very friendly and easy to read. They both really had a way with words. The words are written straight but the humor is trying to push the tongue out past the cheek.
Buying this old gun related reading material is still less expensive than two current retail novels....
