Ordered CZ82 Today
I've been watching these for some time now and finally took the plunge.
Ordered from AIM Surplus. It should arrive on Thursday. Will post pics then.
Until then, any advice on ammo selection and vendors would be appreciated.
TIA

If it feeds as well as my CZ-83 take your choice in ammo. I've had exactly 1 failure to feed in about 350 rounds, fmj's and hp's inclusive. No failures to fire or eject. Mine is .380.
A lot of people prefer the fmj's, saying the hp's don't have velocity to expand properly. Can't say as I have never shot anyone with either type.
I can't imagine the 9x18 Makarov would be any different.

I have had my CZ82 for several years. It is very accurate, and has never jammed. AIM has the Silver Bear ammo in both JHP and FMJ form at just about the best price I have seen for Makarov ammo. I have used S&B, PRVI, Silver Bear, Brown Bear, and Wolf, as well as some of the Hornady JHP. I find the Hornady to be overpriced and underpowered. When I carry my CZ82, I just stick with FMJ.
The CZ82 is very accurate with it's unusual smooth polygonal bore.
Here is a pic of mine, with a target fired at 25yds...I used kentucky windage to walk the rounds into Osama. The pistol has Marschal grips, but I can't recommend them for this pistol...the design requires them to be very thin in places...where mine cracked. These are walnut, perhaps a different wood could take it.

The CZ82 is a great little gun. I've had one for some time now and it is a good bang for the buck.

Are they "true" CZ's? I have seen some that say CZ but are not made my CZ??
I like the Markov but everyone I have tried at the gun shop has a really, really heavy double action pull. That's the only thing that stopped me from getting one. Are these CZ's better??

I reload for mine as finding any ammo the last few years has been kinda hit or miss. Trimmed down 9x19 brass, 3.5gns of Bullseye, Lee Makarov bullet lubed with Liquid Alox, Lee carbide dies. Shoots to point of aim at 25 yds. For carry ammo I use whatever Russian hollow point I can find.
The CZ82 is a little bulky for summer CCW, but I find myself selecting it a lot in the fall and winter.

I believe that the original Czech designation was VZ. Still an original Czech, though, made by BRNO, I think.
I've owned two Mak's over the years and had to sell one (responsible family man) and another was stolen. One was Russian, one was E. German. Both had heavy double DA pulls and marginal SA pulls. Both were only marginally accurate. IIRC, Soviet required these pistols to shoot within 5" at around 15 meters. Mine printed around 3" to 4" at around the same distance.
From what I've read, the CZ is better all the way around. It just doesn't have the romance of the Mak.
I'll know first hand before too long.

I like CZ and have several. Let us know how the trigger is on the CZ82. You got me interested in one.

The DA trigger pull is light and smooth...The SA is short and light, but not crisp.
They are excellent pistols, and one of the best bargain SD weapons on the market.

Thanks a lot. Now look what you made me do!
I ordered one also. I paid the $10 for a hand pick. Hope they really do.

No BBT As Scheduled
The BBT was supposed to arrive yesterday but, those UPS guys screwed up (according to AIM) as the delivery was scheduled for yesterday.
Will have to call AIM on Monday.
Hope you have better luck OCD1.

I just picked mine up and finished cleaning it. It was FILTHY!
Two trips through #9 solvent, then gunscrubber, final clean with CLP.
Mine came USPS priority mail to the gun shop.
I'll post a pic later. Looks like a nice simple gun. Blowback, breaks down like a PPK

Bought mine about 2 years ago. Excellent pistol , as are all CZ products. It permanantly resides in the console of my pickup , loaded with Hornady XTPs. Not much modern HP ammo available in 9mm Mak.

I have one. Mine doesn't feed JHPs and the mags won't drop free. They need to be pried out. Just needs a replacement part or two, but that's how surplus guns are. Commercial CZ83 mags sold by CZ will work fine, though differ slightly from the military CZ82 mags. I just buy cheap Wolf ammo. Georgia Arms sells JHP ammunition, as do several other makers.
Quality is decent, but fit and finish isn't on par with some of the commercial CZ83s.
They're heavy for their size and no easier to carry than a sub compact or midsize Glock owing to the weight.
Most people who have them are quite fond of them all the same.

I prefer mine to any compact Glock...Better trigger, manual safety, excellent accuracy, fits my hand better. It certainly is easier to carry than the Glock 23 I used to own.
Several different JHP's I have used have fed faultlessly (Hornady, Silver Bear 115gn and 94gn, and a couple others). I have decided that I prefer the penetration of the FMJ in this caliber. My favorite ammo, in order of preference is: S&B, PRVI, and Silver Bear, all FMJ.

I have a CZ-75 that I brought back from a tour in Germany back in 1986. It's a great gun and one of my favorites.

Well here she is all cleaned up. Can't wait to try it out. Von Fatman, I really like your 83. I have that on my short list. I just bought this as it was cheap and one that I am not gonna reload for. Kinda a car, boat gun. I pulled the firing pin and extractor to clean out. I do not like the looks of the extractor tip but will see if it works. It dry cycles a magazine so should be OK. This was the dirtiest gun I have ever cleaned. Not grease like a SKS but old oil and DIRT. It however does not look like it was shoot much. Little wear on the slide and frame. Double action is very smooth and it has no decocker so it's cocked and locked single or double action.
The holster weighs more than the gun. Think it is brand new. Had have genuine Czech ammo for the first run.

OCD1, tell me about the holster. From where and how much if you don't mind. Does it look like the squared trigger guard on my 83 would be a problem? Thanks.

The holster came with the gun from AIM surplus, but is not the holster pictured here;
AIM Czech CZ-82 9x18 Pistol Czech CZ-82 9x18 Pistol
Here are some views of the holster. The 82 has a pretty large trigger guard but not sure if your gun will fit it. It is pretty tight and I would "guess" no.
Perhaps Numrichs??

I re read my post and when I said I "guess" no,
I meant I do not think your 83 with squared trigger guard would fit this holster.

I like it. I would rather mine be .380 or 9mm as I load both of those. The 9x18 is a odd ball, guess that's why it is cheap.
Going to the range sometime today. Will see how it shoots.

OK, I'm no longer PO'd that UPS was a day late on delivering this one and I'm very pleased with AIM.
The picture doesn't do it justice. Finish is probably 99% and it is nice and dark although it does show some tiny use marks. Some little scratches on the grip, also.
Covered in oil and will need minimal clean up. Internals look new. Can't wait to burn some rounds.

Yours looks in better condition and I had them hand pick one. Plus as I mentioned it was really dirty. Glad you got a good one. Shot mine today and it is extremely accurate. I was surprised and happy.
Need to find a good deal on ammo as I probably will not shoot it enough to justify reloading for it.

Guess we're both happy campers. AIM has the Silver Bear (cleaner than the Brown Bear, I've read) JHP's at $12 for 50 rounds. Best value I've found.
I still have a few rounds of surplus from about 10 years ago but, that supply seems to have dried up.
Happy Shooting

Here's my CZ-82, I got some Wolf and Brown and Silver Bear. The Brown Bear I can get delivered from CDT for a little less than $10 a box. And these things were designed to shoot the cheap Russian ammo.

They have some good deal from time to time. Good turn around time also. I've got to get some 7.62x39, I put a Chinese SKS in layaway, to go with my Yugo SKS.

Great minds think alike. I stocked up with a few cases of the 7.62 x39 for my Norinco and Yugo SKS.

My Norinco has a fiberglass stock, which looks nice, and I like th spike bayonette since it is different than the blade on the Yugo. But, the Yugo has night sights and a grenade launcher. With my CZ-82 and Mosin Nagant I have firearms from four communist countries.
