I own Rock River AR's and have a chance to buy a new Bushmaster is the Bushmaster gun worth $929 or should I just buy another Rock River

RRA has a deal now where you get a scope mount, detachable carry handle and something else if you buy one of their carbines.
All have the match trigger. Entry model is $950. That's MSRP and I don't know anyone who pays that.

IMO, there's a world of difference between RRA and a Bushy. Start with the trigger-a match, two-stage trigger in the RRA, and some 7 or 8 pound single stage in the Bushy.

How does the S&W AR stack up against those brands? I don't have a black gun but hope to soon!
I have the Bushmaster CMP model and I have no problems with it, including a very nice trigger.

Is this a newly built Bushmaster?
Normally, I would be partial to the Bushmaster. They are not far from where I sit and I know several fellas that work there.
However, since the Remington / Cerberus take over I'm hearing rumblings from their fitters that incoming materials standards for outsourced parts that come from Remington have been lowered and functionality has suffered.
But the last AR I bought, an XM collapsible, was just before the Obama surge, and it is a fine rifle. It is my fifth Bushmaster and I wouldn't hesitate to take it anywhere. As a field gun I favor it over any of my three Colts.

I have a Bushmaster XM15-E2S lower with a Chip McCormick AR15 Single Stage Match Trigger Group. The upper is a Rock River TASC A-2. They work well together.

I have a ten year old Bushy CMP competition model A2. It had "issues" at first and had to be sent back for a "fix", but has been 100% ever since.
The initial problem was that the windage was way off to one side. My guess was a canted front sight. Sent it back to them, they made it right.
I've heard very good things about Rock River. I think I would trust them, Armalite and Colt as well as Bushmaster.
Right now, I'm building another AR, but I'm doing it from scratch and it will be a combination of many things.

I have a RRA heavy barrel varmit rifle that has been excellent. I always look at the individual gun before buying. If you look close you can often find minor flaws or fitting issues that are not apparant at first glance.

Used to follow AR15 forums also amd pretty much these 2 are neck to neck. Cant go wrong with either one. Im not familiar with the new remington take over and materials issue "got into this forum for current trend addictions".
1. Colt was having some major materials and QA issues with receivers and lots of people grumbled about their "conforming to the pressures of gov't / public gun scare tactics"
2. RRA and Bushmasters have a solid following on other forums with minimum gripes and complaints (occasional hicups but good customer service"
3. last time I checked, unless your local store has some in stock, it was very difficult to actually purchase and receive RRA. There was a tremendous wait time on new weps. RRA = Wilson barrels, and pretty darn good factory trigger.
I do not own a Bushy but have the RRA.
Think of the ARs in terms of Tiers also. These 2 weps are good entry/factory rifles. <--- although absolutely no slackers! Next tier would be more along the lines of the customs and tighter / fitted weps. Armalites, Les baers, Wilsons, (insert high priced favorite here). I personally believe the RRA are great as they are with few mods/additions needed to suit personal tastes.

I have dealt with 4 Bushmasters in the last year or so. All had GI quality triggers--heavy and creepy. My fix in each case was to install a Jard non-adjustable (except for return spring weights) trigger. My cost, around $110 per. I also like the 'D-Fender' for extra extraction power on carbines; but that's it. My personal one has 3K+ rds through it and runs very well.
I had a Colt CAR-15 in the 80s and the trigger on that was pretty bad as well. 'Some say' to just get used to it; no thanks. Not if I have a choice.
Like anything else ARs respond to some intelligent study and interaction. I was handed my first one in 1966 and am still learning.

i have a bushmaster lower with a dpms upper in 556, i absolutely love my lower, quality craftsmanship and a crisp trigger pull...but for some reason i got a tighter fit with my dpms upper than with the bushmaster, it was tight, but the dpms was tighter with no wiggle....hope this helps your decision

I've seen that too. One afternoon we had an AR get together and for jollies we were swapping around uppers. The Bushmaster Uppers would swap around with no problem, but the Bushmaster Lower would not accept the the DPMS upper. In fact, the only lower it would fit on was the DPMS. I believe that the DMPS upper's rear pin hole was not bored properly, and the lower's pin hole was over sized to accommodate it.
I'm not really a fan of DPMS.
Have owned 2 Busys, gave 16" HB to a son who lives in a state that has goofy laws re:ARs. Kept the other, 16"bbl, configured ala M4. Both shot well, better than me. Had a problem with a lost screw in rear sight of M4 type. Friend who is local SO armorer cclled Bushmaster and they sent replacement, no cost, and he fixed it. Re zeroed and still shooting well. Other is a Stag, which to me has a slightly better trigger.
As to RRA, have never shot one but my old agency issued them to its agents, after extensive testing. That would be good enough for me to buy one! Fedret

If the Rock River comes with the two stage match trigger, buy that one.
