Default Help, Kodak 650H Carousel Projector...

I picked it up in GW, and it won't drop or advance a slide, just clicks.

I've done some research and believe it to be the solenoid. It is available but the 'techs' want close to $100. to install.

I have downloaded and printed a service manual.

Anyone here have some experience with this?...is it something that I could do myself?...the part is cheap!

I have no trouble taking things apart...it's the putting back together.

Thanks in advance for any info/suggestions. Preston

I've never had to change a solenoid, but I've done the belts in a few of them. There are two belts that run the mechanism- a short one and a longer one. As I recall, the short one runs the fan, and the longer one runs the slide-changing mechanism. Whenever the gate won't work, or is out of synch, it's usually the belts. Taking one apart, and putting it back together, isn't difficult, as long as you pay attention to what you take out from where! The difficulty will be in finding the part(s). I'm sure there are still some speciality places that stock them, but (unfortunately) 35mm slides are now an outdated technology. I work part time for a career college that teaches photography (not my program, but how this particular school got their start), and they have gone exclusively digital. There is only one module that involves slides, only to demonstrate exposure concepts with no possibility of manipulation; the slides are not even mounted or projected! You may want to consider snatching up another projector for parts. If the Ektagraphic takes the same solenoid, you might look for schools and other large organizations "cleaning out" their old stock of Ektagraphics. They were much sturdier than the compariable Carousels. Good luck!!!

All slide projectors are cheap today. However there is no way to beat the experience of a slide projected on the screen.

It sounds like it is out of sync. Try putting the tray on it and gently forcing the tray backwards and forwards. Except for a bulb I've never any other part fail in 30 years. I'd bet you can find a replacement cheaper and easier than finding a replacement part.

I have an Etkagraphic that is still functioning. If I wanted parts I would call B&H Photographic and ask for the Audio-Visual Department. They may have parts and/or may be able to direct you to a repair service.

Appreciate the replies...I think I can get the part here in the Denver area, B & H is great, I've ordered from them before.

Tried this and it did nothing...tray would not budge.

Thanks, Preston
