What is your ideal defense revolver?
Just at the title says, "What is your ideal defense revolver?"
Mine would be an 8 or more shot 22mag, 2.5 inch barrel, exposed hammer, and under 16oz.
( Yes, the 351PD is close but I want one more round and a slightly longer barrel )
or
An 8 or more shot 38 special, exposed hammer, under 16oz
( Yes, the 327 is close, but IMO it weighs too much for pocket carry in gym shorts. My pants keep falling off with anything over 16oz lol. )

Can't seem to find a better carry piece than this 1974 Colt Cobra. Holds 6 and only weighs 16oz. Stoked with 135 gr. Gold Dot 38+Ps for short barrels. Light enough to forget it's there sometimes and a decent enough round, accurate, manageable recoil, what's not to like?

Maybe not ideal, but I like a big bore, easily concealed, small package. Settled on a 2 1/2" Bulldog with compact grips. Carries easy, shoots straight and packs a decent punch.
Be well all

I personally believe the S&W K frame with a 3" HB, RB, FS is about the ultimate revolver for CC work.
Like this 10-8.
A 65-3 or 65-5 would be a great choice and offer a little more versatility.
This 64-3 was my first such gun.

Pictured on the right in both pics: Ruger stainless steel SP-101. 5 shot 3" .357 mag w/Hogue grips. Good weight and balance. Very nice double action trigger. Accurate. Not too heavy, fits my hand very nicely, hides and rides very comfortably, plenty of power to TCOB.
I like it a lot.

If you are willing to spend $600.00+ on a revolver, you might consider a 431/432pd .32 H&R magnum. Light weight, respectable power, six shots. Here is a photo of my daughter's very similar 331 TI.

I'm not sure what is meant by "defense revolver" but if the chips are down this is what I hope is on my belt my old 4 in. transition 3rd. Model .44 Special. It is pure fighting gun.
The action is oh so smooth; it points like my finger and .44 Spl. is a great cartridge. Whats not to love.

Something in .45 Colt...like one of these:
A 25-9 or a 625-7 Mountain Gun. A 280 grain LSWC at 900+ fps is a pretty persuasive argument.

The revolver I have at hand when I need it!
Seriously, I have 2 revolvers in my carry rotation, depending upon the conditions of my carry. I have a S&W Model 36-6 and a Colt Trooper MKIII. The Smith will be the normal carry during calm times, and the Colt for long drives when a shoulder holster would provide the best access.

Sorry no pictures but MY perfect defensive handgun I have owned for about 4 decades. It is ALWAYS loaded and currently sleeping under the seat of my truck inside an old Lawrence flap holster. No it is not my everyday carry, but it is the first go to handgun for 40 years. It has been under an upside down ATV, rode in the bed of trucks and duffle bags. It is just there when stuff happens. The grips look fair since the flap holster protects them. Bluing is worn and all the sharp edges are silver. Just last week the wife and I came home from town and our door was open and the light on. The revolver was un-holstered and used to check the house out. It is far from what others consider their perfect defensive handgun but it is ideal for me or I would not have used it for so long. It has been in numerous old mountain cabins and tents sleeping within my reach. I seldom put it on my belt, but it has been duct taped to many roll bars in off road vehicles . The old girl is a Smith & Wesson model 19 with a 6" barrel.

My 3" model 29-6 ported with factory P.C. Grips. Enough power to stop an elephant and if I miss, either the muzzle flash will blind em or the shear percussion will scare em to death?
Followed closely, by my night stand model 66-2 snubbie 2 1/2" barrel with factory combats! Loaded with 2 speed loaders right beside?
I have automatics also, but my personal choice for personal protection and home will always be a revolver!

In my opinion, anything that puts a good sized hole in the bad guy. I carry a really nice Model 60-7 with hand loaded hollow points. I'm comfortable with it and I'm sure it would be effective if needed.

If I could only have one defense revolver, it would be my SS, 2 3/4 in, Ruger Speed Six in 9mm. A close second would be my SS, 2 3/4 in, Ruger Speed Six in .357 Magnum. Hands down the best overall defense revolvers ever made.
But if I just had to pick a S&W revolver it would be my 696 no dash.

Boy this is a toughie! For in pocket my M-442, on belt M-10 four inch heavy barrel, closely followed by a four inch M-19. If I'm feeling a bit paranoid for the day my M-21-4 or M-22-4. Tough to nail down to just one!

This is my preferred "Defense Revolver". S&W .45 Colt Mountain Gun. 255gn at 950fps, will take down anything in the USA.

Although I am recently retired, I am still authorized to carry my Browning BDA380 and my much beloved S&W 696. My BDA380 is for defense, because nobody in their right mind wants to be shot with a .380. However, if I am facing a drug-crazed, knife wielding maniac, I would much prefer my much beloved 696 plus a baseball bat.

"ideal defense revolver"......covers a wide range of territory!
For deep concealed carry; 3" 60-10 .357; think micro 686...... slightly modified Spegel Extended Boot Grips carried IWB
For concealed carry casual dress; 3" K-frame .357; 13,65 or 66 Spegel Boot grips and Sparks Summer Special
Open carry 4" 686-"nutin" that's been round-butted & action job... w/ Spegal extended Boot Grips......appropriate OWB holster

If were talking a Revolver that is too large to conceal carry I like My Ruger Vaquero in 45 Colt.
The thing is a Tack Driver. But if I want to shoot through a refrigerator I have My Smith and Wesson model 29-3, 44 Magnum with 4" Barrel.

If I could pick any revolver to fill the roll of a "defensive" revolver AND had a reliable supply of ammo for it there would be only one for me. A Webley Mk V in the original .445 Mk II caliber. I've held nothing else that compares to the natural point-ability of the large frame, round butt Webley.

I quit carrying a revolver when going places where I might expect trouble.
But, if I were going to carry a revolver, I like the Model 60.

Though above I did opt for the .45 Colt, I would be fine with this one as well; a 3" 657 in .41 magnum riding in a Milt Sparks PMK:
Now if I could just settle on the stocks!

If I am wearing dress clothes I am carrying my model 60 with a 3 inch barrel in a custom pancake holster of my own design. If I am wearing jeans and boots I am carrying my 686 3 in barrel in my own designed hi and tight holster.

What, where, when?
Home Defense: I kept a Python in the nightstand before I went back to autos. Wife kept a Target Masterpiece, preceded by a Combat Masterpiece. Now we both have Glocks. If limited to revolvers, most people should stick to a 4" or 6" 357 mag.
Personal Defense (Field Carry): Custom Reeder 454 Blackhawk. Wife carries a 41 Mag Blackhawk. If large furry animals with teeth or horns aren't involved, any good DA that starts with a "4"=I personally favor a S & W 1917 with clips. A good 357 will work as well. 4-5-6" Barrel.
Concealed Carry: Wife carried a 38 snubby (Colt DS 6 shot) and I carried a 649 Bodyguard. Both now carry autos (Glocks)

For an ideal, I would opt for a 21-4 or 22-4 with the lock removed. Since I don't have those, I keep a Model 13 in the nightstand, loaded with 125 gr. HP +P .38 specials. I don't use .357 mag ammo because if I should have to shoot some BG in my house, I don't want a hole in the wall.
