After 10 years on 2nd shift, I am going to an 8 am to 4 pm shift starting at the end of may. I have enjoyed 2nd shift because it is the most interesting shift in a prison. Most of the action takes place then and after 4:30 the big wigs and civilian staff are gone, so i was able to train my people the way I needed to.

My staff are kind of worried about their new supervisor since he is right out of the acadamy but he will train with me for part of May. I will let him make his own mind up, but will point out who I have been able to count on.

I will be working with more senoir staff whose supervisor was their buddy, so I will have to overcome that, all of them know me and my leadership style and I expect some are worried about I am planning for them.

I will be in charge of the work release inmates and Training along with all of my other duties. It should be interesting.

The last 2 days I spent in ICS training in Madison, which was very interesting. At least they used real scenarios, floods, fire and tornados which we have around here.

Good luck with the change! I've been working second shift for several years and switched to third (11p-7a) this year. I'm regretting it already and can't wait for shift selection to come around again so I can go back to sleeping at night.

I spent years on 3rd Shift until I made rank, then it was off to 2nd shift where I still live and thrive. Some day they may force me to days, hopefully I am ready when the time comes.

New shift, new challenges and new opportunities. Good luck.

I never liked 3rd, but do it when I have to, I am going 8-4 because they want the new guy on 2nd. I am not sure thats a good idea but will go with it. I will make the best of what I get I still have a job and am happy for that there is quite a few people in the country who don't.

I did 2300-0700 Fri and 1500-0700 on Sat/Sun for eight years.

Got bumped to 1900-0700 Sat/Sun and 2300-0700 Mon/Tue and then they needed me to switch to a desk job at 0700-1700 four days a week (2 day/ 4 day weekends alternating).

I'm still not used to waking up at 6am after six months :D
