Default My Son's First Time At Reloading

I know I should have posted this in the reloading section but I knew more would enjoy seeing it here.

I started like many of us with the old fashion Lee Loader.

So when I found a 32 S&W Long Lee Loader I had to pick it up.

From years of hearing about "Knuckle Balls" I knew this would be prefect for him to learn with. Deprimed the cases a few weeks ago.

I got the powder, primers(finally), Lee primer tool and lead balls. Sebago Son's Son made us a 1 gr dip with a 22 short case. 1 gr of Bullseye with a 40 gr round ball.

So last Sunday it was beautiful day out. We hooked it up.

Cleaning the primer holes

Priming the cases

He poured the powder. I put the bullets in and crimped them. Here he is with his first box of bullets.

Enjoying the end result. Weapon is a Webley Mark IV in 32.

Best part is figured it out to less than $4 a box of now store bought 32 S&W Long at $30!!!

They were nice plinkers. Guys he is hooked!! I have to be honest he wore hearing protection but it was like a pellet gun going off.

I loaded some with 2gr's and 2 balls more like a real 32 S&W. We shoot 22's most of the time but I thought it was really neat to introduce him to this tradition.

Hope you all enjoy looking as much as I enjoyed doing this with my son.

Thats awesome. Looks like he reall enjoyed it and I am sure you did as well. A little off topic. I saw the artillery cross cannons and was wondering what MOS.

Default safety

It's a great thing that your son is learning reloading and shooting.

I would like to have seen some safety glasses in the photos.

A handsome young man like your son needs to protect his eyes.

Just one Bruce to another.

Thank you for sharing.

Bruce

Thanks guys. Bruce you are right. That's why I loaded the cases after powder. Notice he's holding the Lee prime away from the eyes. But you are correct. I've since picked up a pair from work.

Snake I was a 13Boo Boo. Cannon Cocker. Did it for my first 6 then move to logistics. Yeah not as much fun but easier to find a real job after retirement. Retired in 99.

Looks like you both had fun. Good move.

My kids started "working" down in the gun room at a young age, too. My 29 yr. old daughter is after me to teach her how to cast bullets and is hinting that she might be after my Dillon one of these days...

However the son claims he is busy and still relies on Dad to keep him in cheap reloads.

Bat that's too funny. Hand him the Lee Loader and tell him to have at it..lol...

It took us right at an hour to do it right and enjoy the 50 rounds. I let Ed shoot them all.

Default velocity

It's all good Bruce as we all need to wear eye protection.

I had a .38 come back and take my glasses off my face and I've had a piece of a .22 stuck in my right ear lobe.

Those low velocity loads are a lot of fun but will return to sender if they hit something hard.

BTW I have shot 1gr of BE with a 46gr round ball in .30 carbine.
Velocity ran from 347-399fps in a Blackhawk.
I would expect your load to be in the same range.
Two grains will be closer to 600fps.

Bruce

Ya done good. I still remember starting out reloading for a 300 H&H Magnum with my Dad in 1955.

We used a Lyman 310 tool. I've still got it and the dies.

I also have his Model 70 and my Rem Mdl 721 in 300 H&H.

A lot of game fell to those guns since then.

Good memories.
