I.B.M. - Retired
My uncle is retiring from I.B.M. on July 1st. His two sons (my cousins) contacted me about 4 months ago and asked if I'd locate a nice USGI M1 carbine made by I.B.M. for them to give to their dad for a retirement gift.
I went on the hunt and after a few weeks found a decent carbine that was mostly mixed parts, but did have a IBM receiver and IBM barrel. I the did an inventory of what I needed to restore it back to mostly IBM configuration, the main thing needed was a IBM specific trigger housing since IBM designed the stamped/brazed trigger housing as a production inprovement over the original milled trigger housing.
I'm throwing in a reproduction WWII sling, 1944 dated stock magazine pouch, a 1944 dated muzzle cover, and a M4 bayonet.
Got the final part I needed, a IBM marked front sight, on her today and I think my uncle will be pretty pleased.

The original post was just over 11 years ago. My uncle passed away a few months ago due to a quick bout with cancer, and one of my cousins called last week and said he wanted to stop by and visit this past weekend. I told them they're always welcome so he and his wife came by Saturday afternoon.
My cousin brought with him their father's IBM M1 carbine that they had presented to him on his retirement. I was at the retirement party and I remember his face lighting up when my cousins presented it to him. He said they don't think my uncle ever fired it but it was always displayed in prominent place in their living room, and when talking with visitors about his many years of service with IBM he would pull out the M1 carbine and show them how the company supported the WWII effort with products other than business machines.
Anyway, my cousin said the family had discussed it and they wanted me to have my uncle's M1 carbine. My uncle had other firearms that were passed down to his sons and two grandsons, but they said they knew I would appreciate the carbine and wanted me to have it.

You have a doubly lucky uncle. One, he’s retired! Two, he has a couple of great sons and a great nephew.
Good job!
PS. SG ammo had 600 rd. On stripper clips in a .30 cal can. Korean surplus, grade 2. Great range ammo @ just over .50/rd.

Before August of 2020 or so it was under $400/can. I bought 3 or 4 and dread running out. Accurate and reliable in both my M1 and my friend's M2.

I first learned that IBM made firearms during the war in 1962 when I was issued a 1918A2 BAR made by IBM. Don’t have that anymore, of course, but still have an IBM Carbine (39009XX). They made good guns.
