What's up with the so called history channel?
Today is June 6, the 66th anniversary of D-Day and the
history channel has that iceroad trucker show on all day.
You would think that they would have on more appropriate
shows for this day in history. I can think of several.
They have really gone down hill since I started watching
years ago. I don't know what iceroad trucking, pawn stores
and the other like minded shows have to do with history.
Just venting my opinion.
Give thanks and remember the men who gave their all
on this day in history.

Their channel is about dangerous jobs...
...why would they have a show about war?
IMO the whole History Channel jumped the shark years ago. "Extreme Ice Swamp Logging." :barf:

Their latest big show "America" was ruined by constant injections of racism and commentary by race baiters like Al Sharpton.
Those calling racism ARE the racists.

The Military Channel is have D-Day related stuff all day. The history channel doesn't show as much military related stuff nowdays, since they started up the military channel, which is an off shoot of the history channel.

I too have all but given up on History. Pawn Stars is cool because of all the old, odd ball stuff people bring in. But ice truckers and swamp loggers? Dinosaur fights and Nostradomus? Really? What happened to covering real history?

I find that the "History Channel" is less about history and more about re-cycled false opinons on history.

Reality shows are ruining TV, we already have reality in real life.
Except for sometimes having the local news on in the background (and sometimes Craig Ferguson), I do not actively watch TV (the little woman has it on while I surf the net').

I suspect there is a tacit collaboration among media to avoid anything that might spark patriotism among Americans. D-Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day all show fewer and fewer movies commemorating efforts and sacrifices that have kept us free for this long.
No replays of the 9/11 attack, either.
Docility R Us.
Maybe.

What gets me is they used to have great shows like History's Mysteries, Deep Sea Detectives, stuff like that. Now we get UFO Files, Monsterquest, and other stupid shows. Wild West Tech isn't even on anymore. On a side note, I did watch their new show Top Shot, a reality show where marksman compete against one another in challenges. The first episode centered around using vintage military rifles that included the 03 Springfield and the Moisin-Nagant. This show looks promising. But it is still not history.

I agree, the History Channel, has strayed too far from history. I didn't like it when they started showing movies, some time back. They aren't alone. Remember when Headline news, was a 30 minute news cast over and over? Now it's just a bunch rumor mongers and **** talk shows. Now in the evenings, you can barely get weather on the Weather Channel. I really get PO'd to find a movie playing on the Weather Channel. Is it my imagination, or did the O.J. trial ruin news TV?

Most programming on TV today baffles me. Seems to be more about ratings than relevance. Still, Discovery, History, Travel, Food, Learning, etc. are still better than the main stream channels which all suck.

Most History Channel shows actually belong on Discovery as far as I'm concerned.

Did anyone catch WWII in HD last night? I realize it's been run before, but I thought it was a good show and fit in with D-Day. It was shown on the History International channel.

I see too many parallels with our leader to be comfortable.
D-Day reminds me of all of those who gave their lives to prevent what we are accepting today without a whimper.
I'm glad I'm old.

Top Shot
Saw all the previews for Top Shot and auto tuned my receiver for the debut....
Totally disappointing... Too much soap opera, not enough shooting....
They glossed over the range time, but focused tons on participant personalities...
Shoulda known with a "survivor" host... I hate those soap opera reality shows...
Coulda been a great series if it had focused on the competition and marksmanship with various weapons and firearms. Instead, a pop culture waste of time...

I have been disappointed with the History channel ever since their so-called expert said the effective range of a Henry rifle was 1000 yards. I even sent them a helpfu email to the effect and got no response. I miss "Mail Call"

They ran out of History.
I haven't watched the channel much since Mail Call, Tales of the Gun and the shows of that sort ran out.
Too much stupid stuff like Ice Road, Axe Men, Pawn Stores and other not really historic stuff. Phooey!

The ninnys run the channel, and much of our media. The term "Yellow Journalism" is most appropriate.
The History channel could have easily had shows about the good results of D Day, such as how much of Europe we rebuilt after the war. And compared "our" rebuilt Europe with the USSR occupied East Germany when the Berlin Wall came down. Oh yeah, thank you President Reagan for your part in that wall coming down, and in our winning the Cold War too.

Same here, I was paying my cable provider for an extra package that contained the History Channel because I watched it every day. I cancelled that extra package last month.

Iggy....Yep getting old isn't as bad as it seemed when I was in my 30s. What I see now is disgusting. We have let our so called intelligentsia brain wash so many of our youth. They really don't know why the Euro's can constantly degrade us. Heck if it wasn't for the greatest generation they would all be speaking German...God bless those who serve....Yep I said God, I guess the PC police will be after me.....

The sad reality is that it's all about reality shows. I HATE those shows! I do 'reality' every day I go 10-8 & deal with morons, criminals & every other personality type in between: good, bad & the ugly!! I would just like to see some historically accurate shows again that have nothing to do with living in snow, trucking, logging or just being trailer trash!!!

They seemed to have elected to stop covering real history at least 10 years ago. I remember great Doc series hosted by Charlton Heston--like: Secrets of WWII, and so many others.

Same here and just like AMC. The only reason I watch that channel--is that they have me hooked on two shows: They be: The Walking Dead and: Turn. Other than that--I rarely find something to watch.

Gettin tired of VERY old reruns of Cops on Spike TV. I like watching the show as well as when American Detective used to be on. However, one can only stand watching the same old episodes just so much. :-))

Sad to think these people who plan the programing find 'The Greatest Generation' the forgotten generation. Might be that there were firearms in the documentaries.

Saw something on D Day on History channel last night. The crashing dramatic music and overlapping narratives made it pretty much unwatchable...

I thought The History Channel is The Pawn Shop Channel now...Most of the programing is very poor so I wasn't surprised...The short shrift given to the anniversary of D Day was excrable...My father was a crewman on one of the destroyers and never talked about his war service much...I think so few Americans have served and know anything about actual history...Not the history of comic book characters...the interest in such things is minimal. That's just sad.

It's the short attention span of young people these days. If they aren't crowding theater seats to see the next remake or super hero movie (the only 2 types of movies being made anymore) they are to busy posting "selfie" pictures of themselves on the internet or mindlessly partying to the droning sounds of electronic music.
The utter selfishness and ignorance of it is nauseating.
