Any Doctor Who fans?
Tonight was the season finale on BBC/America of Doctor Who. I won't give anything away for those who have yet to see it, but I can only say, wow! The writers worked overtime on this one, by far the best finale of the new Doctors. Matt Smith is not David Tennant, but he has a style and sense of humor all his own, a worthy heir to the Tardis.

I have put off watching this season of Doctor Who until it comes out on the SciFi channel. I can get SciFi in HD on my cable service, but not the Beeb. I have been pleasantly surprised how the Doctor has caught on over here given the US TV viewers odd habit of demanding "name" actors and glamour at all times.

I've watched Doctor Who for years back when we could get WGN and when one of the local channels carried it. Sadly, we can't get it now.

I've been watching it again since I got digital cable and can get BBC America.
I've really enjoyed this season, but enjoyed the previous seasons of this current version as well.
Regarding your avatar, during the last election, I photoshopped a picture of Dennis Kucinich as Davros, surrounded by Daleks. It's not everybody who can say that their "representative" (not of anything in which I believe) is a GENUINE alien.

I've been watching "Dr. Who" since it was on in 1/2 hour segments on WTTW Channel 11 (PBS) in Chicago in the '60s. One of the first things I remember is a bunch of UNIT guys shooting at the Sea Devils with their L1A1s.
When I came back to Chicago briefly when I got out of the Army in the '80s, it was still on WTTW. It was on at 11:00pm on Sunday nights, after "Monty Python" and "Fawlty Towers".

I have be a Dr Who fan for many years. Watched probably all the Dr's on PBS. Even pledged the PBS station at the time and got the T shirt and coffee mug If it comes on Sy Fy I 'll be watching it again. Do not care as much about the newer versions although Billie Piper is nice to watch.
I liked Tom Baker as the Dr the best.

Tom Baker is THE doctor.
The episode (I forget the name) with the Chinese magician was the best ever.
But I really like the last couple of years. Better special effects. But there was a certain charm to cardboard guns with the "rays" drawn in after filming.

IIRC, "The Talons of Wen Fu Chang", though the spelling might be off.
I'm a Tom Baker man myself.

Interesting bit of trivia for you.
The original Doctor Who theme from the 1960s holds a unique place in music history. It was one of the first true pieces of electronic music. Those were the days before synthisizers or multi-track recording. Each individual note had to be recorded and painstakingly pieced together to produce the song.
Delia Derbyshire was the lady who put it all together.
You can read about it HERE

Been a fan since 1983, watching it on Public TV here in Central NJ. I saw Patrick Troughton at a fundrasier in Trenton in 1986, got to talk with the others at fundraisers and conventions. At Whovent 1985 at the Sheraton Valley Forge I spent some time with Jon Pertwee, Doctor No. 3. he told me how he escaped from HMS Hood. As they were gearing up to go into action against the Bismarck and the Prinz Eugen in the Denmark Strait, the captain of the Hood ordered all supernumeraries-Jon Pertwee was one, he'd been selected for OTS-to be taken off. By the time they got to HMS Sheffield 20 minutes later, the Hood had gone down.

For a long time I resisted watching the "new" series as I was a major fan of the original. Sure am glad I changed my mind. This season especially has been great, Smith really did a fine turn as the doctor (and having a redhead companion didn't hurt). The finale episode was one of the best ever.

Been a fan for quite awile, but don't have BBC. Fist time i watched it, was years after the series started. Kinda like if ya started watching first episodes of Star Trek in 2010, never having seen it before.
