Default Found this in an antique store

I spotted this in an antique store yesterday. Dated 1944 from the Electric Boat Company, definitely a different time period. I can't even imagine this type of artwork being produced now.

Yeah, political correctness being what it is... Some collectible stuff gets by if it is old, but nothing like that is being produced with a caption like that today. Neat old painting though.

Cool.
Electric Boat Co. built subs during both World Wars. Is this like a propeganda poster, or more like actual shipboard decor?

Neat poster. I've seen several of those from the period where companies advertised their contributions to the war effort. Note the periscope in the left foreground. Imagine that, a company proud of supporting our country's war effort...those were the good old days.

In another thread several members were not pleased with the attitudes of Japanese tourists visiting the USS Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor.

Why don't we ask Electric Boat to reprint these so that the Park Service can give them away to said tourists when they visit?

Very cool printed poster. Love to have one framed.

We must do everything possible not to change history to appease Political Correctness.

Changing History to be politically correct? Do you mean for example: air brushing out the cigar from Churchill’s photos or the cigarettes from Roosevelt’s? Surely no one would do that?
Roosevelt used to be shown with cigarette in a long holder and without wheelchair, now they put him back in the chair and takeaway the cigarette.

Political correctness triumphs over truth and accuracy!

The four color litho. sheet feed printing has gone the way of the so many quality products, that were taken for granted years. It is kinda sad.

It may be one of the art works commissioned for the war bonds fund drives. The artist did the work then they made posters from the prints.
Like these, I've offten thought of haveing them framed.

Funny, I was told by some of the guys that were stationed there (this is the mid 1980's mind you) that many elderly Japanese tourists that went over to the Arizona used to laugh and snicker about it. A practice that did not endear them to ANYONE there, especially the Park Service guys.
