Iconic John Wayne Role Redone

Did you see "Crazy Heart"? Jeff Bridges will be great, especially with the Coen brothers at the helm.

Its not so much a remake of the old movie, but a more faithful adaptation of the book.

Luckily for some, attendance will not be mandatory, and previously existing copies of the John Wayne version will not be rounded up and destroyed.

I loved the original, but the horrible sequel starring the Duke was far more of an insult than this remake will be.

how do you replace the Duke. Jeff Bridges is a good actor but the Duke hes not

Another movie that should not be remade.
The folks in Hollywood are supposed to be creative but the stream of remakes doesn't show it.

sorry. i love the duke and almost all his movies, but true grit and rooster cogburn have to be the worst. straight cheese, not because of him though. i like the c bros and i can't see how they could possibly make a worse movie.

I really liked True Grit. I read the book after seeing the movie. It was a bit gritier. Instead of being the usual 70's horse opera. True Grit broke the mold. I can think of several Wayne movies in that era that were pretty good but only because JW was the star (money maker)

Jeff Bridges in Crazy Heart was pretty good, but it was a movie in the same theme as Tender Mercies. Tender Mercies was better.

Name a remake of any movie or TV series that was better than the original.

You've Got Mail was a remake of The Shop Around the Corner and In the Good Old Summertime and I liked it better than either of the previous versions. Though Judy Garland is one of my favorite actresses. Also, I liked the remake of Angels in the Outfield a LOT better than the original 1951 version. I also enjoyed Oh Brother Where Art Thou more than any of the many Italian versions of the story, though that may not be a fair comparison.

Oh Brother Where Art Thou was GREAT! The story, the music, the whole thing was great. Loosely based on The Odyssey.

What did you expect?

Both the film and tv industry have long since stopped being creative and imaginitive. To be so would not be "politically correct".
Expect this movie to be nothing whatsoever like the original...it will definately be "politically correct" and probably with the same political slant current product is. Everything I've seen lately is all about someone's agenda. Nothing marketed as comedy is, IMHO, no where near it...just tragic and pathetic.
Everything is a remake of something because the talent just isn't there anymore; IMHO either behind the typewriter, behind the camera, or in front of the camera.
The last movie I went to was a film about a 1940's pulp hero. It sucked so bad that most of the people watching it walked out mid-way. I stayed to the end and wished I didn't.
Look at TV; mostly reality shows that are either borderline porn with a cast of idiots and made on a budget of $1.50 or someone singing that sounds like a dying water buffalo in rut. IMHO the only thing really funny on TV is WWE...pro wrestling...and when it gets to that point, it should be time to shoot the tv to prevent its suffering.
Comparing the likes of John Wayne, Clark Gable, et. al to the current crop is like comparing a 55 Caddy Eldorado to a 83 Yugo! And you can guess who is who there!
Sorry for the rant, but I had to get it off my chest.

IIIIII am the man of constant sorrow Iv'e seen trouble all my days....I love that movie even if George Clooney was in it....I liked the movie Untouchables but still enjoy the dvd's of the TV show even though Robert Stack was a little over the top sometimes....I vote no on the True Grit remake cause nobody one ups the Duke...What I think we will see in the future with all the digital special effects and computer animation available to Hollywood are new John Wayne movies and other long gone big stars being in new movies with graphics so good that you won't be able to tell that they aren't the real people... Just look at how realistic the video games are now so think about 10 years in the future if the country lasts that long...

I'm looking forward to seeing this new version. I think Jeff Bridges does a good job, and the Cohen Brothers have made some truly great films; ought to be interesting.

I love the Duke, but seriously, and don't hate me, but I think his True Grit movie was more than a little 'weak...' I also agree that Rooster Cogburn was also on the not-so-great side. Give me The Searchers any day, now there's a classic!

The Duke made many a good movie, but his role in "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" was the most memorable for me.

+1 on Liberty Valance....many great lines,..."Pilgram if you're going after Liberty Valance you're got to get yourself a hand gun"........and another good one,...."Liberty Valance's the toughest man south of the picket wire, next to me"....Great movie, I want one of those huge steaks that hangs off the platter in the restaurant scene

"Pompey, go find Doc Willoughby. If he's sober, bring him back."

Clint Eastwood Rules!

(Sorry, just had to say that!)
