Default Off Brand Revolver From the NAPA

I happened to be at the local NAPA again Wednesday morning, this time to pick up a lawn mower blade for the old Snapper. I moseyed back to the gun department where Bo (the owner) was talking to an older gentleman, I would say about 70 or a little older. Bo introduced us, and I almost couldn't get away from him, he talked so. I finally went to the parts counter where they had my blade. I passed some time with the counter guy, then headed out to the truck. I noticed Bo and the gentleman looking at some guns he had laid out on the tailgate of his truck. Having an eagle eye, I immediately noticed two Colt boxes. I tried not to interfere, but I did ask what was in the boxes. A Single Action Army and a New Frontier. Both .357/38. Hmmmmmm. I went on with my blade, but I couldn't get those Colts out of my mind. I worked around the farm the rest of the day, doing some errands, and went to Macon to pick up some filters for an engine oil and hydraulic oil change on the tractor. (Did you know that a hydraulic filter for my little 35hp tractor costs $95 ) I woke up Thursday morning about 7:00, and being retired, I set in to drink up a pot of coffee. About 8:00, I started thinking about those Colts. I figured it wouldn't hurt a thing to just drop by and look at them. Bo's niece was in the office, and she showed me the guns. NIB--definitely unfired, and the cylinders might have been turned. Way out of my league price-wise, I figured. Bo came in then, and I asked him how much. When he made me a price, I know my mouth dropped open. "I know I want one of them," I told him, "but I don't know which one." I posted the question of which one on the Colt Forum with the price, and immediately started getting pm's, wanting whichever one I didn't take. Anyhow, to finish this, I wound up with the New Frontier, and my brother got the SAA. Now, my dilemma is whether or not to shoot this pristine Colt. The guns are from about 1981, I think.

If you're not going to shoot it, why the heck did you buy it?

Unless you are interested in collecting Colts, I would probably see what it is worth on the market, sell it if I could turn a profit, and buy something more modern that I could shoot without worrying about collector value. Of course, if you really like SA .22's then you certainly have a nice one.

Wow, I don't even know if I've ever seen a nickel New Frontier. Very nice, and well worth a pile of those "R" single actions, in my book.

Yeah, hang on a second....if I remember right, 357 NF's wereent all that numerous, but nickel are fairly scarce. Although its a 3rd gen, those dont get much respect, they dont make them anymore, so it should increase in value.

Having said all that...I would shoot it!!

"The thing looks almost like a Ruger"

What about this one? The top gun is an Old Model .357 Blackhawk, converted to .44 Special using a 5 1/2" Colt New Frontier barrel. Alan Harton of Houston did the work. He also did the 4 5/8" revolver.

Very nice Colt.
You mentioned NAPA, you are referring to the nationwide chain of parts stores, correct?
You mean they actually sell firearms in one of them?
Many of the ones around here have the no gun signs posted.
