Some friends of ours with children spent the last weekend with us, they have three boys, age 4, 6 and 13. The 13 years old is named "Aaron", and has been shooting with me since he was 8 years old. He was in my 4H Youth Shooting Group when I was living on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, he got his own Ruger .22/45 pistol a couple years ago, he is a competetent shotgunner, already shooting more dove than I ever did. He is also an excellent rifle shot with a .22, he and his Dad are about tied in rifle shooting skill, and soon Aaron will pass his Dad.
Whenever they come to visit, we always include a trip to the range, this trip I got to introduce him to centerfire rifle and revolver shooting. I loaded up a bunch of mild .38 Special rounds for my RHKP (Royal Hong Kong Police) Model 10, and some cast lead 180 grain rounds for my Ishapore .308 carbine. These are between .357 and .44 Magnum in power, 10 grains of Unique give them 1350 FPS. Easy on the shoulder, quiet and accurate.
Here's some pics, Aaron shooting Falling Plates at 15 yards with the Model 10, he consistently got five out of six:

Aaron is a safe shooter, he always gives a safety brief before any shooting event. He is on his way to becoming a great all around shooter and sportsman, his Dad and Grandfather take him hunting dove and duck whenever they are in season, and I get to train him on the finer points of rifle and pistol marksmanship.
The things children learn when they are young, they become better at than anything they try to learn later in life. Imagine if you tried to become a good Baseball player and didn't start training until you were 30 years old, you would never attain the skill level you would if you started as a child....
