Default Bisley

came into posession of a 44/40 colt frontier six shooter bisley model. 259xxx
4 3/4" barrel paten date: 1874 to 1971
it is in rough shape. alot of surface rust but no major pitting. the ejector rod hand is bent and the hammer is froze.
Iam in the process of taking it apart and freeing up all the internal parts.
It was put away in the holster for about 20yrs.
what a waste of an exceptional handgun.
Thanks for hearing my pain.
Dave

That's terrible- I hate it when folks do that to a good gun.

Take it easy, go slow and use lots and lots of oil.
Just about all the parts you will need are available. Love to see pictures.

You confuse me with the patten date. I assume thats a typo? Also I thought the "frontier six shooter" was the etched barrel 44-40 only and available only on the standard grip. Maybe the barrel was changed?

PAT.SEPT.19.1871 JULY2.72 JAN19.75
The etched barrel 44-40 only was on the new frontier as far as I know.

I read it as 1975 due to the rust.

Should be roll stamp/marked and have (Bisley Model) above the 'Colt Frontier Six Shooter' stamping on the left side of the bbl.
1904 or '05 mfg I think.

I have a similar 44-40 Bisley in 5 1/2" bbl. Sad outside condition, bore not great but it cleaned up good enough to shoot. Didn't even have a real Colt cylinder on it. Fitted a 44wcf cylinder from an Italian repro to it. Need to 'distress' the cylinder to match the rest of the gun! Fun gun to shoot.

Hope you get yours up and running. They deserve saving.
