Ooooo.
My prayers are with you.
It's one thing to imagine it, another to see it.
I hope it wasn't your nose pick'n finger- that'd be awful.

Sorry to hear and now see it. How fast things can happen.
Look on the bright side, one less fingernail to worry with.
A little humor, very little.

That's ugly, my finger cringed when the pic came up.
Hope it's not your trigger finger!

Like my dad used to tell me," that'll feel better when it quits hurtin' ! "
I was luckier, I guess. Ran a table saw blade through about an inch and a 1/4 of my index finger and just wound up with a bit of nerve damage after it all healed . . . .
Just think, though, of all the cool stories you can make up after it all heals to tell kids why they shouldn't point and laugh at some people . . . . .

Shoo, I hope you're feeling better. My brother did something similar with a circular saw a few years back. He trimmed his down to the knuckle. Now we use his mob name "Nicky Nine Nails".

I can't believe I wanted pics! I clicked on each one. I've come to the conclusion that just like your "Custom" Shooboy® Gunsmithing Hammers, you simply have a "Custom" left index finger now!
Somehow I can't help but think that your new custom finger will, in some way, come in handy with its uniqueness!
I hope you're feeling better.

shoo,
That sure looks familiar. Mine quit hurting in cold weather about two years later. There's some sort of therapy for that, that involves "cider".
That's as far as I'll go, here. I can't remember how it felt at the time, but I think I disliked it. Wishes for a speedy recovery. TACC1

shoo, my Uncle Bill had the perfect line for inquisitive people who asked him what happened to his finger. He was missing the first joint on one of his little fingers. He told them "I wore it out punching holes in biscuits to pour syrup in."
Hope you heal quickly, pa'dner.

Nast bit of pain there Shoo! Looks like they may have saved the first joint though. Also looks like you get to keep the fingerprint. I hope it takes, and heals real well and real soon for you. Now be careful will ya!!!

My Grandfather (1896-1972) had a nub that looked like I think yours will look like. It didn't slow him down a bit. Try not to poke anything or any body for a few weeks.

Shoo, there's a good remedy for the pain this time of year. In a tall glass add ice, fresh apple cider and a good dose of Myers dark rum. After 2-3 of those you'll begin to wonder what it was that was bothering you.

I have three friends who had accidents with saws. Each of them was unmercifully busted on by buddies. That is the way guys deal with that.

Start flexing that finger as soon as you can without causing pain. Especially the last joint.Even if you to need bend it with your other hand.
Don't be surprised to see a small fingernail cell trying to grow on the end. They are very resilient.
Buttons and shoe strings may be a issue for a little while until you adapt. Now days with Velcro tennis shoes you don't have to keep your shoes laced up.
Good luck and don't worry about what you cant do.
Just figure out a different way to accomplish the same task.

Well....if that wasn't your primary nose picker then it must be your butt scratcher (wouldn't use the same finger for both). Either way it will be missed. Ouch!

The comments make me greatly relieved you set up the pics as a link.
Although I was drawn to click on the thread, I knew enough to avoid the pics.
I hope what's left of your finger is feeling better. At least you can still type!

Hey Shoo! I have one of those but mine is on the index of the right hand. I hope you are right handed. As you have already found out, that hurts like Hades. Mine did heal up nicely and I hardly notice it now, except the nerve damage causes it to not have the feeling you were used to. I can put mine on something hot or cold and the sensation does not register until you have already left it there to long! (I had to look at the pics... brings back old but not necessarily fond memories).

At the risk of sounding insensitive, if you had used a disc sander like my old man did on his thumb you would have had a neater finish. Seriously, sorry about your injury and best wishes for your recovery.

Hurt
Dang, Shoo......I bet that hurt and it's sure gonna leave a mark!!! Probably cut into your side biz for a while too. I bet with your mechanical skills you can build yourself a knew finger tip....metal would be too cold though!
I grew up on a farm where ten fingers were rare among life-long farmers. One old boy was pushing green corn stalks into the silage chopper and lost one of his fingers. His co-worker asked how he did it so the fellow stuck another one in and lost it too!!??
Don't do any demos for people ......please.

Shoo, I hope you are feeling better and will suffer no impairment other than those you had before the accident. There is a potential up side. I saw a guy on the old Johnny Carson show who claimed to be some sort of retired covert operator. He had some sort of prosthetic device that included a .22 caliber index finger. He loaded it with a blank and gave Carson a cardiac test when he shot him with it.

Of course I HAD to look. It's kinda like those locked threads ..or bad feedback, or plane crash video's. I was drawn to it. Having said that, I do hope you feel better soon. You seem to have an outstanding personality and spirit. And I'm sure that helps a lot.
Have a stellar weekend!

I hope it is healing nicely, Shoo. Tell me it has stopped hurting now, please.
I cut off 1/2 of the last joint of my left thumb on a table saw on 10/20. I've stopped taking the oxycodone now. But I can still feel it.
I'll be operating a bit shorthanded from here on out, but on the up side, I guess if I ever decide to get a manicure, I should be able to get 10% off.
