Can This Be Happening To ME???
At my LGS's shop today, to fill out forms for next S&W. As I'm
getting ready to leave, he says, "Hey, did you ever see one of these in Like-New condition?" The man knows I'm weak, and you know that when I walked out the door, the next time I went there, I'd be picking up two firearms instead of one.
Anyone else have this happen to them??

Don't worry boys...............it never stops but it does lighten up a bit. Just realize this fact; with every gun you buy, it's one less gun you "need". I do still purchase an occasional - " oh man, I can't pass this one up for that price", but you tend to go longer and longer between the purchases as you get older.
I actually did something last year that I have NEVER done before. I actually SOLD a gun. Up to that point all I did was buy, but I finally came to the conclusion that I had a few guns that I never shot, never really liked all that much after the initial purchase, and were just dust collectors. So......I got rid of them and guess what I did with the money?? I bought another gun - but it's one I had yearned for, for years. I am now in the "refining my collection" mode. I have lost the fear of selling, and will do so to get what I really want and will really use now. Your tastes change as you get older, why not satisfy that change if at all possible. At a younger age, my priority was not so much on quality as it was on quantity. Now it is quite the opposite. I'd rather have quality than quantity.

Twice I've gone into our favorite shop and stated " I'm just looking for (in the first case) a Colt 1903"-And the dealer pulls one out from a hide hole in the counter and says "Oh, like this one?" Of course its not for sale-its his personal gun-so I have to haggle-But he gives me a deal.

I have managed to sell off a few guns from time to time. It's a good thing to realize you are at least capable of unloading a gun, even if you don't do it very often

One of the shops I frequent has been my main place to get guns and ammo for nearly 40 years. A couple of the guys there know what I like and mention guns the got in and offer me a look. If they also knew how much money I usually have to spend on such things, they might not bother. Being retired with a daughter in college means I can hardly afford to buy any ammo...but, looking is free.

Sounds familiar.
In August, I walked in to a nearby store to buy a gun safe. They didn't have it in stock so had to order it. So far so good.
After paying them, I told the guy I might as well look around a little before I left. You know what's coming........I walked out with a Model 63-3.
That was just wrong in so many ways....

Thats how I got my 696. I had told my pusher I wanted a "Dirty Harry" and when I went to pick it up, he says " hey! look at this. I know how you LOVE anything that starts with a .4"...........

I know what you mean, one of my pushers acually made a sign that said reserved for Bob and put it on a N-frame. I went in and seen it and while filling out the paper work on it asked, am I that predictible, and the reply was, why, yes, yes you are.

vulcan bob; "Hey, I resemble that remark!' Truth time.
oldman 45:
Thanks to a fellow forum member, I got a Terrier, and became
interested in I-frames. Next Tuesday, I'll have a H-E in .38. It may
be a project gun, I'll post pics. While filling out paperwork,(sound
familiar?), my LGS produces an Iver Johnson top-break that looks
almost new. Tight,great finish, in 32 S&W Long. I couldn't help
myself! It's coming home Tuesday, too. I was going to give the
man some lip for taking advantage of my weaknesses, but I don't want to kill the Golden Goose. I'm pathetic! Can't wait to shoot 'em!!

Luckily the owner of my LGS has similar taste. I asked if he had my 4" pinned barrel M25 in yet... He said if one came in it wouldn't be going in the case!
So anything that would be super tempting to me I probly won't see THERE...

Finally, Got Both of them
Went to the LGS's lair today, and picked up two more shooters.
The finish on the H-E is not blued, but not pitted, either. Maybe just needs a little clean & wax?
The I.J. doesn't look like it needs anything, except feeding.
Pics below:
Guess I have found my limits on close-ups of the S/N's.
S/N is 228xx on front strap, bottom of barrel, and rear face of the cylinder. Whatever the barrel length was originally, it's now 2-3/4".
It still says Regulation Police on the rt. side of the barrel, but only says
Smith & Wesson on the left side. Don't know if calibre marking was supposed to be there or not.
Range trip on Friday. TACC1

Yea, I have one that calls and taunts me with goodies, knowing I will have to come see because he knows I am a junkie. Good dealers are the devil.

I buy, sell and trade a lot. I look at the price difference from new to used sell as sort of a rental cost. Buy a new gun to see if you like it, if not, sell it and the difference is a rental cost.
The only true way to know if you want a gun is to have it for a few months and if it is a carry gun... actually carry it.
I have my guns that will never leave, but I have a few that will eventually be traded for something new.

Yep, went in to get a pistol my wife wanted and ended up buying a SIG at a price I couldn't pass up. Heard one of the pushers say to the other "I told you he would buy it."

I've bought a Nickel Model 29 four inch and a 625 five inch in the last week and a half. Sometimes when it rains it pours.

That is the oldest trick in the book. I bet it works most of the time, too.
Hope it was something you "needed."

If it were just S&W's it might not be so bad, after all you guys own most of them and they don't get put on shelves in the LGS. There's also shotguns, Rifles and other pistol-revolvers, Sig for one. My wife gets sorta nerve wracked when she thinks I am going to the LGS. She came up with a plan, BOTH OF US WILL PUT THE CHECK BOOK AND CREDIT CARDS IN THE GUN SAFE. So I'm at my favorite snake hole and they have just put out some guns from and estate (widow who wants a fast sale). There is a 12 Guage Benelli 12 guage sporter. Beautiful wood and marked $250.00. I could have said set this behind the counter until it gets paid ofr, which they've done, but outta respect for my wife I went back to work. About 2 minutes after arriving I called my wife and told her to get the debit card out go to the LGS she cusses and pick up this shotgun. It is just what you need for pheasant or dove or something. I called the LGS and had them put it behind the counter. I caught the chewing when I got home, DO YOU KNOW YOU HAVE TO TAKE A TEST TO BUY A GUN? Yes dear. Then she mentioned needing scrapbook stuff, I went and got my cards back out. Since that point last spring I've only purchased a Mini 14, a K-22 & two 19-3's. I've sold some rifles and off brand pistols to acquire more S&W's. The 4" Nickel 19-3 was causing heartburn in one of us until I told her I bought it for her. When she claims a gun, it is taken off the market, no selling or trading her guns..... Tomorrow is a new day, the sky will be clear and there is a gun show in Pacific. Hey Honey where's my debit card? I wonder what kinda gun she needs this time

You're very perceptive! I heard the same thing in the background,
but I think it came from a LGS enabler, who was just there visiting.
