Default The drought is over

After two years of not getting anything in deer season I broke the streak this morning. It is opening weekend of southern zone here in NY (I live in the northern zone and have been hunting for about a month) and where I hunt in the southern zone has a tendency of getting overrun by hunters. Well, I decided to sit in a certain spot and get there ahead of everyone else. It worked. I was only in my spot for about 10 minutes when a 10 point buck came through. He had gone past me but I called him with a doe in heat call and reeled him back in. At about 30 yards or so I let him have it with a slug from my 16 gauge Ithaca Deerslayer. He dropped right where he stood. We weighed him at 126 pounds dressed (he had been rutting alot from the looks of it). I am right now savoring the thought of some backstraps. As you can see from the picture, so isn't the boy!

Congrats on a very nice 10 point buck, David.
Looks like you've got a "new" hunter in training on your hands too.

Nice deer. And bonus points for the 16 gauge Ithaca.

Excellent! No joy for me this morning, but there's lots of season left.

Thumbs up

Very nice looking deer!

Not very many still using a 16 ga. slug gun, anymore!

There is nothing better than fresh venison!

I have to BUY mine, though.
