Default Something to Watch

I enjoy watching DVD's in the evening after sweetie pie goes to bed. I really enjoy series. I've watched the entire season of Lost, Firefly, Band of Brothers and Twin Peaks. I'm curious about Deadwood. Worth watching? I was considering Pacific but the guys on Sig Forum trashed it, especially compared to Band of Brothers.
So, Deadwood? Pacific? Any other suggestions?

I would take Pacific over Deadwood even though it was not as good as Band of Brothers. Deadwood was suddenly not renewed and they had to finish with an unsatisfactory rushed and hurried ending if I recall correctly.

Ron, I agree Pacific is no BOB but still better than Deadwood. I'm not sure what it was about Pacific that fell short. I think part of it was the limited character development. In BOB you felt you knew the cast half way through Curahee while Pacific fell short. Just my opinion.

Deadwood is a great show, I heartily recommend it! Not for the timid though as the language is fouler than any show or movie I've seen. We're watchng the Pacific right now but have only finished the second episode, it looks to me like its going to be a great show too.

You might try finding the CD "Victory at Sea"

Has lot of episodes and is real with no computer graphics.

I've got a couple more suggestions, 24 is a great show, you could also throw in the Sopranos, and Seinfeld is available pretty cheap too!

Ahh! Firefly, such a wonderfully gritty and dirty show considering it is sci-fi. Too many sci-fi series have floors, control consoles etc. on which you could perform open heart surgery with no chance of infection. Firefly was so grimy and rattly you wondered how nobody ended up breathing vacuum at least once an episode.

Firefly is our favorite here. Some other good ones to watch are Haunted which is from 2001 or so before Matthew Fox was on Lost, and Life which starred Damian Lewis(Winters from Band of Brothers) as an unusual LAPD detective released from prison after 12 years for a triple murder he didn't commit.

I have all 3 seasons of Deadwood and even though the series finale leaves you hanging its an amazing show. Chock full of cursing and violent acts and one of the best "Villains" ever (Ian McShane as Swearangen)

La Femme Nikita is great fun and Peta Wilson is just perfect for the role.

Deadwood is my wife and my favorite series, followed closely by Firefly. I agree that the Pacific is not as enjoyable to watch as Band of Brothers; but still worth watching.

Bones is another favorite, along with Rome, Life, Lie to Me, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Life on Mars, and Pushing Daisies.

The Wire. Another HBO show, the best show ever on television, period.

Boston Legal on DVD without commercials is great. We have the whole set. Out takes, bloopers, and cast interviews were funny. The cast didn't take themselves seriously.

I like some of the Masterpiece Theater series "Danger:UXB" and "Heat of the Sun" to name a couple. In addition to Bones previously mentioned I also liked Legend of the Seeker. Though my wife says I mainly watched that show for Bridget Regan.

Damn Yankee, I used to watch Victory at Sea with my Dad when I was a young'un. I have the soundtrack to the series, wonderful music.
Glad to see there's other Firefly fans out there. I can't put my finger on why I enjoy it so much. Great series.
Thanks for the input.

Last Christmas I found the complete Victory at Sea series on DVD in the $5 bargain bin at Wally world. I grabbed one, then decided to grab a half dozen at that price. Made great Christmas gifts for selected friends who I knew would appreciate it.

For a little comic relief the series "MXC- Most Extreme Challenge" is, simply put, hilarious. Real footage from an 80's Japanese game show that is overdubbed with comedic commentary. The current show "Wipeout" is a very poor, very unfunny, shameless copy of MXC. Give it a try if you like to laugh.

Deadwood is one of my favorites but the language isn't for the kids. I read somewhere that the f-bomb is dropped on average one and a half times a minute for the entire series.

All of the above mentioned are really good, and The Pacific is worth seeing. Also, "Justified" is really good, and I am quite taken lately with "Sons of Anarchy". It's rather decadent and sensationalized, but intriguing all the same. Oh, and another really good one is "The Good Wife". Kind of like "Boston Legal", and kind of different on it's own. No Shatner though. One has to like series T.V. when the Drug War is waging all around one I suppose.

I love Deadwood.
Band of Brothers, Carnivale, Sopranos, The Wire, Firefly,
Battlestar Gallactica. Just a few.
Oh, I also like the Tudors.

I've seen the first 4 seasons of Dexter, all of the Sopranos, Lonesome Dove and Northern Exposure and enjoyed the whole lot.
Carnivale sounds interesting but I hear that it was cancelled before an ending could be written. Sounds like an exercise in frustration.
My wife has just purchased the entire Deadwood collection for me but I won't get it until Christmas. She says to thank you all for the suggestions. Deadwood also was cancelled without an ending but the complete series has a bonus disk that helps to wrap things up.
Thanks to everyone. The thread remains open for other suggestions.
