Has anyone tried Renaissance Pre-Lim Gun Stock Surface Cleaner on blued finishes? The product description indicates that it can be used to clean wood and metal. Please post your opinion of the product.

The one review on Brownells and Midway seem to like it. Appears to be pretty expensive for what any light wood polishing compound (pumice)or extra fine wool can do.

The product description indicates that it can be used to clean wood and metal. I was just wondering if it is as abrasive as Flitz on blued finishes. At Bill Cross's recommendation I have been using Clenzoil prior to polishing with regular Renaissance wax.

I do not consider Flitz abrasive on factory blued finishes. Not saying I would use it on a $2k gun but have used it on several blued revolvers and rifle barrels. I have tested Flitz on a brand new blued magazine that sat around for some time. Flitz on one side and plain old Hoppes #9 on the other. Both patches had identical amounts of slight discoloration.
But that is whole other heated discussion;)

Why not try some Flitz on the wood? It is only fine aluminum oxide and petroleum base.

What are you trying to do to the stock? Just clean and make it look nice? Test an area with automotive clear coat safe polishing (not rubbing) compound unless it's some museum piece.

I've used Formbys Furniture cleaner (petroleum based) removes old wax and polish.
