That was the day my oldest daughter was born, in May of 93 my wife and I received a call asking us if we would consider adopting a little girl. My wife's youngest sister had become pregnant and had a baby girl in Florida.
The sister had no pre natal care and was mentally disabled and used some other drugs. Joanne and I decided that we did want to adopt her and in June she came to our house. A beautiful little girl with blonde hair and bright blue eyes. Over the summer we became used to each other and in the fall we started the court proceedings and that finally ended in March of 94.
Over the years she has has to have her legs straightened out she walked tippy toe and the muscles failed to stretch so a series of casts and special shoe braces were needed. She walks fine now, in school she was mis-diagnosed with ADHD and given medication for that and a few years later it was found that it was actually autism with Aspbergers syndrome and we dealt with that.
Because the school district didn't know how to deal with autistic children we had some rough years in the begining but she weathered through that too. She is going to graduate this spring from high school.
In November because of her mental disability the wife and I petioned for and were granted guardianship.
Tonight we are having her 18th birthday party and even with all the rough spots I wouldn't trade away any days with her.
