Unhappy 20 years - And now it's come to this

I went to TheBigCity and bought a lock for my side door.
We've lived here for 20+ years and haven't been able to lock the door, but then again didn't need to.

A whole subdivision of *modular homes* was put into the cotton field down the street and it would seem that the folks that were thrown out of the projects were moved into our previously nice, quiet neighborhood. Not so quiet anymore.
The modular homes have been there for about a year now. Some look like they've been there for 20.

Yep, a new idea that spreads the misery around into the suburban areas, and thus lowers the crime rates within the inner city.

It is supposed to encourage potential thugs to avoid joining gangs and doing bad things since the surrounding neighbors are nice, hard-working folks.

We'll see . . .

In the meantime, I'm glad you got that lock. Hope you've got a safe too. Bolt it down.

Ah yes, your tax dollars at work. On another board someone labeled government sanctioned blockbusting, and the people who really benefit the most from it live in upscale gated communities.

Nothing like HUD sanctioned chicken coops to bring in the people that lower your property values.

Just north of our county seat town a guy converted a small chicken house to a rental. Actually kind of cute. I know the guy that lives there, he makes donuts for the local c-store.

Current trend, reported in USA Today a couple of weeks ago, is for chicken coop, packing crate size houses.

I have always wanted to figure out how to make use of all the abandoned shipping containers that are too expensive to ship back empty to China/Europe/Etc. as housing! Stack them on top of one another and install piping as the ultimate recyling project.

This is how mayor dayley (lower case for lower class) improved chicago in the last 15 years. "Gentrification" saw the tear down the HUD housing, and let them loose with section 8. When they were in HUD housing they fell under FED rules that allowed searches and seizures of guns, drugs, etc., without a warrant. Now they live near me, for a year or so, and then move on to destroy another neighborhood. But there's always new ones. The local newspaper read today that police will have to be re assigned to cover the increasing burglaries here.

I've had to vacate two extremely nice homes in great neighborhoods due to the lower class moving in the area. You can see the property values drop. It can only take a couple of families to get the ball rolling. These people can't afford the homes, but they never intend to make payments anyway.

It's already been tried, and proven to fail.

All it does is export the crime from the inner-city to the suburbs, making the 'burbs like the inner-city.

sec. 8 housing is such a horrible idea.
not only does it make all neighborhoods equal by turning em all into the ghetto .. but you no longer have a nice isolated area for carpet bombing to solve the problem.
More often than not as I sit here at the keyboard, I keep an arm at arms reach due to the sec 8 couple across the hall. In the event their debates overflow into my world, I will not hesitate.
Mind you, I dont mind packing heat. I'm comfortable doing so. I just prefer that the presence of steel feel a bit more ... ya know ... optional
