E-5 Combat Engineer. 21B. Trained for 25C, Morse Code, radio operator. Once in Viet Nam you learned how to do everything. Short courses. Here kid, this is how you turn it on and this is how it's supposed to operate. Do it. Not even kidding. First time with a mine sweeper was to say the least, exciting.

Me, too
Started as an ROTC Cadet, finished 30 years (1996) later as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Somewhere in the middle there was time for a tour as a Forward Observer in the Central Highlands.

I can't vote in this poll, as I have no military background. However, I think it is a great idea to build the community of vets here on the board, and to establish the "hey, I was there in XXXX" camaraderie shared by men who served their country. While we gather here for the Smith and Wesson connection, there are other ways we connect as well...and I support this thread...
If someone wants to start a "how big is your house" thread, or a "how much do you make" thread, then I will post my opinions about that at the appropriate time....

Don't feel bad. I can't vote either, because I have been in all three categories.
You have served/are serving, too, just not in the military.

I did a lot of jumping in and out of the military over the years, couldn't tell you the exact dates unless I pulled out the records, but here goes.
enlisted in 1979 in the Kansas National Guards
63D Artillery systems mechanic
1982 went Active Army by choice, ended up in CSC 3/32, 7th INF when it was still at Fort Ord CA as 11H10E9, TOW missile gunner with the ITV qualifications
Got out a year later, spent some years as a civilian then when moved back to Kansas re-enlisted in my old Guard unit, this time as a wire communications installer in a 110 8" howitzer battery.
Then as a Fire Direction Computer operator when the MLRS came in. Had to transfer to a different unit when I got my Federal job as the MOS wasn't compatible with the job requirements so went to the 778th Trans CO as a HET driver, all in all I received training and certs for four MOS qualifications! Never had a chance to get bored, was discharged when the 778th was called up for Iraq, guess 13 years in an artillery battery with improper hearing protection did something to my hearing or something...
