Iver Johnson topbreak need info
Can someone help me figure out what I have here?
I think this is an Iver Johnson 2nd model safety hamerless; 38 S&W with the trigger safety and the mfg name includes guns and cycle works, Fitchburg Mass.
This seems to indicate it was made in 1898-99 but the only serial number is on the underside of the trigger guard on not on the butt grip underside ???
Thanks

What is the problem? There are many Iver Johnson revolvers with the serial number on the bottom of the triggerguard. Mine has to.
Glock copied the safety system.

Please give me some time. I have the book of Iver Johnson. But it is very dark and very late in Holland. I am convinsed that it is the same model I have. But you have to excuse me. It is to late to investigate.

Sure is a pretty one!! The full serial number, with letter prefix, is on the left side of the grip frame. You have to take off the left grip to see it. All I can say is that it was made before 1909 (only two pins in the frame instead of 4, and no positive cylinder stops). It's for black powder only.

Bill Goforth was the "Go To" expert on Iver Johnson and a gentleman.
He was deceased in the past year.

I've got one of these, as well. Given to me by my Grandmother. Also nickel plated, and 32 Short. It's in nice cosmetic shape, but not in firing condition (mechically). If any of you IJ collectors are interested - I'd gladly arrange for its adoption to some one who appreciate it. I'd like S&W or SIG parts in trade.

I made it a point to talk to Bill Goforth when I went to the Houston gun shows. He was very knowledgable and very friendly; I was sorry to hear of his passing.
