Way I see it, over the next 10 years the Sunnis and the Shiites should murder about 1/4 of each other. And after they get the consequences from poking the stick through the bars at Israel, should be right tranquil around the Mediterranean . That would free up some "good will" afterward. Joe

Agree. This is one that is best handled by watching. Let the EU and the Arabs settle this one. It's also a great time to see if all this vaunted European equipment that they keep trying to sell us (like the EADS tanker) actually works.

I hope we sit this one out entirely. We've risked/sacrificed enough American lives over there already. Unless we are looking to establish Libya as the center of the "United Arab States of America", we should stay out of it. The Europeans need the practice- maybe this will help them earn a little legitimacy as leaders also. This could be good for the UN if they stay strong...we'll see

Too late. 112 missiles fired on 20 targets at noon today pacific time, included air defense facilities as well as ground force tanks etc. Supposedly this will make it safer to enforce a "no-fly zone", and help stop the nut job fron slaughtering his own people. Hillary claims that the US will not put boots on the ground, and while we are in command of the operation thus far, command will be transitioned to the international coalition ASAP.

The Russkis and the Chicoms have to be enjoying our further expenditure of our military hardware. Both of them voted against this current UN resolution. No surprise that the French jumped in quick on this "intervention". Immigrants from Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia have been a plague on their nation's resources. Does anyone think the French want a couple of million unskilled, uneducated Libyan political refugees coming ashore????? The rest of this Euro "alliance" is looking at this same problem to varying degree. Don't kid yourself..........If they really want to unseat Gaddaffi, his two sons, and the rest of his tribe, there will have to be UN blue helmeted boots on the ground before the dust settles on this fiasco. Mark my words on this one!

I agree that we should not be taking part in this. The politicians"spout" off and before long, young American Men and Women are losing their lives, and for What!

One more thing while I'm thinking about it. The Allies are going into this because it promotes Democracy. But once its over, and the Muslim Brotherhood is in power, I'm pretty sure there won't be any Democracy. I'm not sure that part of the world gives a hoot about Democracy - or anything else we value in the western world.

So, if the goal can't be reached, why waste the lives and money? And if you answer oil, I'd still say why this approach? Somebody will sell us the oil. They have to. Its the only thing they have that the world wants. Without oil they go back to farming rocks and sand.

Exactly right! Ghadaffi is a no good, brutal dictator but what will replace him will be, I believe, much worse for the US in the long run. He hates and holds Al-qeda down, if he is gone they will come to power and be controlling an oil rich country with billons the spend against US! Similar situation to Iraq where Sadaam held them down, when we finally pull out Al-queda will be waiting. Remember on TV the crowds in the mid eastern streets celebrating every terrorist attack on the US. They will be the ones in power!!
As they say over there "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". for some reason our politicos can't understand the concept.
There is enough oil, coal, nuclear and Nat. gas in the US to be able to forget about these guys! Let someone else take care of them.

Thanks. They're courtesy of the Navy and the USMC. Just my way of focusing on the sailors, Marines, and airmen who are right now delivering a well-deserved serving of whup-*** to Colonel Gaddafi.

On 24 February 2011, resigned Libyan justice minister Mustafa Abdel-Jalil revealed that Muamar Gaddafi personally ordered the Lockerbie bombing. He ordered the bring-down of another civilian plane over Africa a year later. The guy they prosecuted in Scotland--Abdelbaset al-Megrahi--got out because he had terminal cancer from which he has since apparently miraculously recovered. The stinking deal that got him out of prison was urged by BP, and pressed by the British government.

Much like the Barbary pirates who threatened American lives at the beginning of our Republic, the new Barbary pirate in Tripoli has been sticking his finger in our eye for years, with relative impunity. He deserves a good taste of the same medicine. This isn't politics or business -- it's personal in my book. I hope that the very same F-111F that missed him by a hair when Reagan ordered an attack in 1986 is available and ready for duty.

So, Godspeed to our airmen, sailors, and Marines! I am praying for your success and safety.

Yep, nothing good will come of this. After all is said and done the only thing that the Libyan people will remember is that our war planes came in and blew the hell out of their country. Conquering a country in which the people hate you is a hollow victory. It is not our country. We don't belong there. We can't afford it. We should just stay home and see how it comes out.

I think we've been duped and once again we're the ones that will pay while the French and the rest of Europe along with the Saudis and their buddies have it easy.
We'll get the blame and go broker for it.They won't.
