It's just difficulties in translation, I believe.
Although, I remember originally it was Usama. Then it quickly changed to Osama (because we simply couldn't have an enemy with a name like USAma). Now it's changed back again because of the similarity to Obama.
It's probably really just because reporters aren't as silver-tongued as they think. Countless flubs of Osama/Obama, whereas it's easier to differentiate Oh-bama and Ooh-sama.

I think the question you should be asking with as much coverage as this has been getting why you can't spell the name correctly. There is no b in Osama or Usama.

The difference between Obama and Osama is BS. Too close that lots of "Talking heads" have got it wrong. Joe

Osama - Usama, Kadaffi - Gaddaffi. I think the problem is translating characters from another language that represent sounds that we don't have in English.
Probably actually sounds more like a cat yorking up a hairball . . .

Its just translation preferences. He's been Usama to the FBI since the Embassy bombings. UBL for short.

Ditto for the CIA. When we were tracking radical types in the Balkans pre-9/11 it was UBL.

I caught my mistake and TRIED to edit it. I found that you cannot edit the title. I had a hunch at least kenney B would jump on it. Somehow he doesnt like me.

osamba or whatever.( I didn't use a Cap. because it doesn't deserve it.)
I hope in ten years when the name is mentioned people will say: "Who? Oh that guy."
I hoped for the same with 'that guy' from the Tate murders and all other 'famous' killers of that type.. I don't like that they breath my air. The names should not be spoken save as a curse. Like Hitler.

When UBL began appearing more frequently in the news, into my noggin pops the image of Bing Crosby crooning, "UBLy doobly doo...." as part of 'Strangers in the Night'. Weird, I know, because it should have been Frank Sinatra.
Fishslayer,
Once again, you have made me chortle. Thank you.
