Damn. How unfair life can be.
I have a friend that I retired with that was diagnosed the same as you and has had the same progression, that was two years ago. He's still hanging tough because just like you, he has people praying for him.
You and your family are in my families prayers.

Emory,
I have five words for you regarding your life, your attitude, your family, your strength in this most unfair situation..."Well done, sir, well done."
I will pray for you and your beautiful family. And thank you for sharing this information with us. Speaking for myself, this really helps put things in perspective.
When/if the time comes, and I pray that a miracle happens and it does not, go out with guns blazing and no ammo left in the ammo can!

Emory, prayers will be said for you and your family. We all have our all concerns and deal with them differently. Your situation, however, will be testing and defining. They say it's not if we win o loose, it's on how we have fought. You, sir are an admirable man. As a father myself I salute your methods and attitude in dealing with your situation. Your family will be proud.
But keep the faith. If I may say so, we Filipinos cling to hope on a lot of things. We seek divine intervention on matters that we deem hopeless or overwhelming. And for some strange reasons we couldn't truly explain, we come out happy and fulfilled. It's difficult to explain but faith is what it is...faith.
Again, my prayers will be yours, sir.

Emory you are in my thoughts and prayers. My wife works in pharmaceutical research in oncology here in Memphis so your situation struck a nerve with me. I am a praying man and have already offered one up. I have enjoyed the pictures you posted and know that you know you are a blessed man.

Crofoot, I just was reading up on the new presidental canidate Herman cain and found this: In 2006, Cain was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer in both his colon and his liver. Cain underwent surgery and chemotherapy following the diagnosis, and has since reported that he is cancer-free. It`s possible to beat this!

I won’t post again in this thread as it lacks grace to bump ones own thread in a situation like this.
All of your posts of good will have had a profoundly heart touching affect on me. Some of you have said you where reluctant to post because it’s hard to know what to say. You’ve all said it just right.
You’ve also been the catalyst to my wife and I making a reservation for next March at Napili Surf on Maui.
I’m not looking for sympathy or more money, but want to be honest with you. Our lifestyle has taken a hit. It has to when the primary bread winner quits working. Our health insurance is more than our mortgage. We are however fine financially.
I can easily sell off enough of my gun collection to pay for Maui. Don’t feel sorry for me. The economic help you are sending my way is greatly appreciated and will go directly for our Maui trip.
I will post pictures from Maui next spring though
With great respect,
Emory

Emory,
I haven't been on the board for quite a while now. Drew sent me a note telling me. Geez, man, I'm really sorry. I very much enjoyed the few exchanges you and I had on the board and elsewhere re: running various rivers in Oregon.
The pics you posted so many years ago of you and your family in the water and the girls playing in the sand, etc.. I can still clearly remember them. Thanks too for the tip on the Illinois, I haven't been yet but I hope to.
You really have done such a great job. So many kids would wish to have a Dad as good as you have been. Honestly the pics made me think of my Dad and what an appreciation of life he gave me, for which I will be forever thankful. Your girls will too. No finer gift can be given.

Hang in there. I was diagnosed with stage3b colon cancer about a year an a half ago. Did some chemo and radiation, then followed by surgery a couple of months later followed by another round of chmo. It was a rough go, but the doc's thought we'd caught it in time.
I had to have another operation a couple of months ago to remove a bowel blockage, doc said everything looked good. Then a couple of weeks later he came back and said a routine biopsy showed cancerous cells in both my bladder and small intestine. I'd be looking at another serious surgery and the chances are pretty high that it would return. I decided not to fight it.
It's a tough row to hoe; hang in there and hope for a miracle

A thank you from me and my family and an update, brings me back to posting in my own thread.
I’m chugging along and generally feel very good depending on what they are doing to me chemotherapy wise. I believe I’ve been through 18 rounds of chemo. I need to check for bragging rights lol.
We’ve made a reservation to go to Napili Surf on Maui next spring break. That’s thanks to your many generous donations and I’ve placed adds in our classifieds today to help cover the rest.
I’m truly blessed in many ways. I never expected the support and love I felt here. And action you took. Thank You!
Emory and Family

I teared up a bit. Being diagnosed with cancer is one thing. A true family man with cancer, well, that's a true tragedy. With such young loved ones. Best wishes.

Emory;
I have waited to learn how your treatment has progressed since the auction last month. Our wish was that it was helpful. We have spoken here about your issue endlessly at our office and it has become very personal and a bit emotional to everyone here. The ladies here, have asked me everyday since last month when we did the auction, how you were doing...every day....more importantly, how was the family doing, and I couldn't say much, not knowing how things were with you. So I encourage you to keep us informed, and we will help you and your family, whatever way we can. The photos of your beautiful family is on the bulletin board in our office and the girls here, especially Ann, think they are the envy of any Mother and Dad. Cop to cop, never quit, never give it up, stand up and deliver. I'll stand with you anytime, anywhere.
God's Love;
Lefty

And By The Way;
I have never spoken to the man, here on the forum or anywhere else, never personally made him a holster. But I admire him for his courage, his strength and fortitude. Makes me proud everyday that I was a cop.
Cheers;

You have my thoughts and prayers.
I too have had cancer twice. I went through 98 chemo treatments the second time. I also went through many radiation treatments.
I live in Southwest Tn. My family and I drove over 700 miles (12 hours one way) to MD Anderson in Houston Tx.
My friend, I sorta feel your pain.
God Bless

I too traveled to MD Anderson.
Some of my treatment protocols where changed as a result.
They quit giving me that one that makes Neuropathy so bad, and the extreme reaction to cold things. It was such a horrible chemo. Even a fruit salad at room temperature was too painfully cold to eat. I’ve forgotten what drug in the chemo cocktail that was, but I’m glad to be through with it.
The medical facilities at MD Anderson and Houston where so huge as to be unbelievable.
Thanks for the good thoughts, all of you.

Praying for you
My 42 year old daughter just went through surgery for stage 4 colon cancer and starts chemo in two weeks. She has three youngers, 2, 6, and 12, so I really understand your situation. My prayers are with you. Try to maintain a positive attitude - it helps you a lot.

To quote the late, great Jim Valvano; "Never give up. Never, ever give up." Words I live by as I wait for each test after prostate cancer. "Boy cancer" as we called it down in Duke's Radiation Oncology clinic. It's less burdensome if one makes fun of it, at least that's the way my mind works.
