Here at the bottom of the world we are in the last two weeks of Autumn. Last weekend I shot my last competition until September, 4 months away.
The winter season is the time I use for practicing basic drills and some of the lesser used skills. All week long I have fought the temptation to throw my range bag into the back of the patrol car, a pistol into the lock box and arrange to be near my club range for my meal break.
Last night I worked 1300 - 2300 and got home on time (for once). With four days off I had everything planned. Tomorrow I have to take the dogs to the groomers for trimming. Monday and Tuesday there are tasks to be completed around the house (we are getting ready to have it painted after winter. Before then I need to replace some boards etc).
Today was to be "my" day. I was heading to the range for some practice drills, to sight in my old 9mm pistol (had new sights put on it a year ago and have not had a chance to fine tune them yet) and to give my now "black plastic" Mini 14 a workout. I got up early (for me on a weekend day off), hit the treadmill, did a few things around the house and put my range bag and ammo in the car.
I sat down for an early lunch and the skies suddenly darkened (even had to turn a light on to type this
).
Now it is pouring down outside and the horizon is filled with lightning. No wind for now, but I guess it'll come.
So no range time for me this weekend!
Oh well, I can always spend a few hours cleaning guns
And next week I will make room for my range bag in the patrol car!
