It's going to be a scorcher today... it was. 113°F!!
101°F at 10 AM in Las Vegas. We hit 110° yesterday. The lizards are hiding and the crows are walking.

Yea,
we're having a heat wave in the North East as well. I have been using both my pool and a/c non-stop. Can't wait for the electric bill.......

True, but Las Vegas is at ~2300' and my house is above 3000' and it will still surpass 110°. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for everywhere below 4000' in southern Nevada and much of neighbouring CA and AZ. There area couple of local places to escape to that are above 7000', but even up there the heat can be in the high 90s on days like this. Not conducive to hiking etc.

The idea of 7,000 ft elevation doesn't exactly make me want to pack up the dawrgs & go for a hike either.

I was RELIEVED in many ways to get back to Phoenix yesterday. I spent the week of the 4th in Illinois and the heat was WORSE there. Huge holiday crowds in Chicago, feeling a bit vulnerable and out of sorts for not being allowed to defend myself there, and four days in a row of 100+ temperatures + humidity, made me happy as a walking crow or a hiding lizard to be back in my "NORMAL" 100 degree temperatures!

Spoke to my boss in Ohio. He said they finally dropped below 90° up there and that 100°+ 60% humidity was ugly. The weather folks here say more 113° days followed by 102°F Friday but 50 % humidity. Hello, monsoon.

It's sad how a few bad folk can spoil a neighbourhood. Stay safe and don't hesitate to call up artillery.

Here in the deep South, everyone is used to heat; at least long term residents are used to it. I've often gone running in very hot weather when temperatures were anywhere between 90-100 or more degrees. Yesterday was not so hot... maybe 90 degrees. Last night about 12 p.m., I went jogging getting back to the house around 12:50 a.m. I was in bed at the normal 1:30 a.m. bedtime. This morning I was back up at 7:30 a.m. Given the projected heat index for today, I will go running around 10-11 p.m.
I figure this night time jogging is a good thing. It allows me to avoid what I understand might be dangerous temperatures/humidity. And... since I am jogging in the black dark I have a real need for a pistol that I can carry for SD against snakes, bad dogs, etc. Kind of a cool

It was 98 degrees here yesterday in Central MT at 4400'. At elast we did get some thunderstorm rain in the aftn to cool us off. Doubt we went below 65 degrees last night though, usually down in the low 50's or high 40's at night.
The heat isn't the deal right now...it's how overall dry we are. Many areas haven't had any real precipitationtospeakof in 6 weeks or more. And it was a relatively dry Spring.
We are going to BURN come late July and August.

As my dad always says, as long as the air conditioning works, you're ok.

We had 10 straight days of over 100 and several 108 days. Sunday was out for a bike ride, and about 1:30 it was 108. Went in the house and hid for awhile, stormfront came through, by 7:00 it was 73! a 44 degree drop in 6 hours!

The heat was unusual in central Ohio. I can't remember the last time I looked at my minivan's trip computer and saw triple digit temperatures for sustained periods.
My van is 12 years old. (And it's a Chrysler product, so it's old AND it sucks.) Last summer I thought maybe the air conditioning was getting weak. Well, this past Saturday I spent about four hours in it getting to/from a wedding. It kept us cool enough, and if it can do that at 102F and 45% humidity, then I guess it's not as weak as I feared.

We live at cedar city utah. Its about 6,000 ft. St. george is 45 miles south at 3,000 ft. Any given time of the day or year there is always about 20 degrees differance or more. A few miles from the house it gets up to 10,000 ft, a few peaks 11,000 ft and lots of miles of trails over 9,000 ft. The high country runs another 15 degrees cooler than us.
Today st george will be 110, here it will hit close to 90 but we might take a short quad ride above us and enjoy 75 degrees. Two days ago we did that. We wore shorts and short sleeves, took a ride up cedar mountain to kolob reservore. Got rained on a little and for a while was cold! Its all about elevation. We are 2 3/4 hours north east of vegas.

Temperature made it to 119 yesterday at my house outside Phoenix. I suspect today will be just as warm...

Just got back from a 4 mile walk. It's a relatively cool 86 with 67% humidity. I don't spend much "extra" time outside this time of year but I don't let the heat give me "cabin fever" like a lot of folks I know. I'm almost 59 and if I stay in the recliner too long, the Grim Reaper will know exactly where to find me. Joe

Today was the perfect July day here in the Ohio Valley. Bluebird skies, light breeze and high 80s. After 10 days of 100 + this was paradise.

We are so used to high humidity here (85-95% humidity) that it feels cool if humidity drops below 70% -- 95 degrees - 100 degrees with 85-95% humidity is a real energy sapper. You don't have to breathe -- you can just "drink" the air.

...and to show that there was no ill feeling, Mother Nature cranked it up to an official 114°F today.
One trick I have found is not to let the A/C get behind on cooling the house. If you do, you will not catch up until the Sun goes down. The pitfalls of a 20 year old house with similar vintage A/C and insulation codes.
