Default Wow, This Place Has Gone Crazy!!!!

As many of you know, I am a law enforcement officer here in NC. In the past two days it has been crazy!!!!!! Last night, a Nash County deputy was shot and killed. Then, two Orange County deputies were shot at yesterday. Neither deputy was wounded, but rounds destroyed a radio and a Taser. Both subjects were later apprehended after a large manhunt. Today Durham Police attempted to Taser a subject, missed, and a foot chase ensued. Subject later apprehended. Tonight, about an hour ago, my agency had a call for shots fired......four dead and multiple weapons found at the scene. Details are sketchy, but two of my best friends are out on the call. I want to know what is going on, but I can't distract them. Talk about a crazy 48 hours.

To all my LE brothers here, PLEASE watch your back.....and your buddy's back. I assisted in warrant service today and caught one of my buddies not paying attention. It only takes a small slip, one time. I know you guys already know this, but it makes me feel better to repeat it. Please be careful. None of these lowlifes are worth your life!

Please be safe.

My thoughts and prayers to the family of that slain officer. Complacency and bad tactics are never the friend of an LEO. Good job on watching your buddy's back. Better to tell him and he get a chance to correct than to regret not doing so the rest of your life. Stay safe out there.

Sorry to hear about your friends and the other officers. It's been a bad year so far, I'm getting email bulletins almost daily about cops getting killed - shot, run over, you name it. Definitely need to stay sharp these days. Be safe.

Many parts of the country are devolving economically into 3rd world status. Crime is a way of life in these situations.

Google up crime in ( 3rd world country of choice), and see where we are heading.

Stay safe out there, guys, it really is a war out there.

I agree. Some cities/parts of cities have been like this (3rd world crime status) for a long time. Now, with the economy, and other factors this dynamic is just spreading out farther... It's just not happening to 'those people' (the very poor) anymore, it's permeating deeper into the fabric of our country.

We need jobs, and less aggregated corruption/greed to fix these problems. This has not happened overnight, and will not be resolved overnight...

My humble .02/rant... Sad to see good people victimized by all of this.

If your agency will pay for it, relatively concealable and lightweight rifle plates can be had these days.

Just because you think you live in a relatively crime free area doesn't mean it's necessarily so. We've got a group in our jail that commited several armed robberies, over 30 residential burglaries, and three murders in just the last few weeks. These guys were mobile as all of these crimes took place outside the area where they lived. An alert citizen and a tag number helped end this spree. Be aware of your surroundings. My condolences to the fallen officer.

Latest on last night/this morning....3 females all sustained gun shot wounds to the head. All found in the vehicle. Body of one male found outside the vehicle. The Sheriff has ordered no further information released publicly until we can finish notifying the families. Obviously, this was not a random act. Weapon recovered at the scene is believed to be the one used in the crime, but until ballistics tests are conducted, it is only conjecture at this time. Weapon came back as a "hit" in NCIC as stolen, entered by Durham PD. I have a feeling this is going to turn out to be a triple murder/suicide. I am NOT part of the investigation so that is only my guess at this time. I will update as information is released......

I retired about two years ago from a city here in Jersey that was very low income and had a very high crime rate. The 25 years of service started out really liking the job then it turned into, well this is ok, then man I'm not sure about this then finally I just want out. So far this year I think they already had two officers shot and a K9 and it's not the middle of summer yet, which is the most busy and violent time. The department finally issued every officer an M4 with the full auto option. Yes be very careful...I feel for you guys/gals still on the job! In the end the only thing that matters is you getting home safe to your family. And your correct...This place has gone crazy! I did all 25 years on the street working shift work as a patrol Sergeant, thats why I'm a little off to I think...

My first guess would have been Hit, not murder suicide. The area of the city I live in is fast becoming known as drug aea. Almost every house in this area is rental only about 7 or 8 on my street are owned by the people who live in them. There was a time my neighborhood was almost totally owned by the people who lived there. My condolances to all involved. Be sure and let us know what it turns out to be hit or murder suicide.

The rapidly disappearing middle class, with unemployment high, the housing market in the dumps, people walking away from mortgages or renting because they can't sell even at a loss, all this creates an environment ripe for chaos. The lack of respect for authority figures and LE in particular is evident all across this nation and they are now also under attack from the public, the media and self-serving politicians. This has caused massive retirements and/or layoffs in many police departments, small and large. Anyone who can retire is running for the exit, but some follow family tradition and a granddaughter is in an academy in NOVA and a grandson is wating to get hired in LE as well.

Other than the occasional teen selling weed or an illegal drinking too much tequila, it's pretty quiet around here. The biggest threat is the soccer moms driving large suv's while yappin' on their cell phones. the other threat is the drug dealers using I684 as a conduit to ferry drugs from points south to New England. Hasn't been a murder here in years.
Nothing special, just a mainly blue collar working community.
My condolences and prayers go out to those brave officers who laid it all down for their fellow citizens.

This week two investigators from the State Insurance Commissioner went to review records of an insurance agenct in a little bitty town west of Lafayette. The agent, a 67 year old man, shot and killed both investigators and then turned the gun on himself

Very sad news here in Central New York from a neighboring county....

A 24-year-old Sheriff's Deputy was shot and killed. He was a Marine reservist and had served in the sandbox. His wife went into labor and gave birth shortly after he died.

Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol announced the birth of the girl on Wednesday, one day after Deputy Kurt Wyman was killed at the end of a six-hour standoff.

The shooter is in the hospital recovering from return fire.

This kind of stuff breaks my heart....

And to add insult to injury, cities and communities across the country are cutting LEO positions. Fewer officers to respond to more complaints and a lack of backup if things go wrong. A disaster waiting to happen. If there's one agency that should never be cut it's law enforcement, even if we have to raise taxes to pay for it.

4506517,
Isn't that why they gave us the Bright and Shiny Badges and the big Salary for? For days like that.
My son in law is a Midland, Texas PD Detective and appearentyl its like that all over this summer.

Drinking Malt or Tequila, playing with guns and hot, hot days and nights is no way to go through summer for some folks.

Remember, Cutting LE and Fire Positions is a good way to scare the Sheeple into paying more taxes.

Rule 303
(retired, thank God)

As noted, this has been a very bad year for LEO's (and for all citizens, to be sure) and I add my condolences to the families and loved ones of those lost.

It was pointed out in another thread that NOT all residents of some of the "worst" neighborhoods are bad. That is true. For a number of reasons some cannot come to your direct aid but many will drop a dime.

I am retired but to my sisters and brothers who are active duty LEO's: Be alert, be cautious, but please continue to run toward the problems as you've always done. Everyone needs you...now, more than ever.

Be safe.

Sheriff still isnt releasing much. I was working with another deputy today when we were approached by an older black woman. She began asking us questions about the shooting. We didnt offer much, since our CID division is being pretty closed mouthed at this point. She explained one of the female victims was her neice. According to her, the male was the shooter. Apparently he and the driver had been romantically involved at some point. All four were in their twenties.

I do not know what to say. I retired from NYPD after 20 years 8 years ago. On the job I personally worked with 8 Cops who were killed LOD. My Father was also on the job. A family friend was killed LOD by Black panthers, 2 years before I got otj. In the academy i had to listen to his 911 radio transmissions. He was shot dead and his partner had a dozen gun shot wounds but lived.

I became a Cop 2 weeks after I turned 20. I have experienced all the Cops I knew personally who were killed LOD, plus all the others I never knew personally. In the 70's, 80. 90.s so many Cops died and three times as many were shot but saved by vests.

Then you get the 911 calls of infants under 1 being raped to death, infants thrown out of windows, shooting victims/perps.

I worked a Precinct that was 5 miles square but had 110 homicides. Then throw in the natural causes deaths. Deal with Child services removing kids from homes who were totally distraught and crying.

I remember being tasked to the perimeter of the WTC just after it fell. Parents of 19 year old kids who worked there, pasted all over printed paper, in silly little poses like 19 year old kids do. Parents begging you to look at their kids picture, looking for them amidst the rubble of 5 acre towers brought down by terrorists.

This is why I did my 20 years and got out. After a while you just cannot take the heart ache. This is also why I was a Cop and not a revenue generating agent who burned people with tickets.

And it sucks more when you have to go back to that same house two days later for the same thing involving the same people and you arrest him again and he gets out before that paper work gets done and six days later you have to go back because of the same thing and it just continues for 20 years then it's their kids starting the same thing the parents did and now your going back to their house every three days for the same stuff but now it's the kids doing what their parents did and you see no end in sight. Some people getting arrested, paying fines, going to jail, having the police at their house every other day, is just normal.

Indeed, it's getting crazy out there! Last year at this time there was talk of putting the National Guard in North St. Louis Mo. And already there have been a lot of officers killed in the LOD over there!
Here in Il. it's no better as E.St. Louis has never been a "garden spot" except for back in the old days (like 1950) or so I'm told.
Personally i've always had a lot of respect for you guys and gals who pin the badge on everyday and the harness! And in a lot of ways I think you have it worse than I did I Astan, I could engage hostiles before they engaged me or my team. You aren't allowed to do that! Due to the bleeding heart liberals!
You guys and gals stay safe out there and watch your six! Dale

About three weeks ago I was headed in to work an off duty job on a Sunday. Call comes out for DPD (I scan 8 other agency's channels) for a gunshot wound. I hear one of my buddies that works for DPD get assigned the call and respond code 3. A father in his early twenties had taken his 22 month old daughter out behind the apartment building, and holding her in his arms, shot her in the head.....then turned the gun on himself. Turns out he was angry the child's mother was dating someone else....of course the family "couldn't believe it", because "he was such a great young man that would never hurt his daughter". The family is now filing suit against DPD for not having prevented the murder/suicide. Turns out the child's mother has two other.kids by two other fathers.....she was at the emergency room taking cell phones pictures of herself with the child's body....she further stated she "was fixin' to get paid because the po-lice should have saved her baby"....she also stated she would just have another baby to replace the one that was killed.....these people are animals.....

We've had four homicides here in the last three weeks. Perps are in jail and charged on three of them. The last one was found downtown near a railroad with a bullet hole in his head a couple of days ago. No leads on that one yet. These are all new perps. (arrested previously for other stuff, but not murder) Once we catch them they don't bounce out of jail on bond like they do in other parts of the country. They stay for the trial and long sentence or death sentence. The majority of the perps I see are the direct result of children having children and those children raising themselves with no regard for human life. All of the recent ones I've seen are gang members or have that mentality.

for any of my fellow LEO's that are still on the streets (I'm done with my time there) remember that not all people are the bad guys. There are a lot more good citizens than dirtballs, if there weren't society would completely break down. I know it doesn't seem that way sometimes, dealing with the criminals all shift long. Stay safe, stay alert, and god bless.

I'm retired and I really feel for the brothers and sisters that have to put up with todays problems. I put my time in during the 50's to 70's and things were a lot different. My biggest concern is that everything is going get much worse. Most LEOs spend their weeks on duty seeing all the dirt in town. It makes life kind of tough when you seldom see something good.

Like every other job.... When it rains it pours!!! As for complacency it's a killer in any dangerous job. Watch your back guys and thanks for doing the job!!!!

Just before I retired I was talking with a young offender. I asked him if his father was named Tim. Yes, it was. And your grandfather was named Lee? Yep. I'd arrested his grandfather in the 60's and 70's, his father in the 80's and early 90's, now I was meeting the 3rd generation. My last question to him was "do you have any children"? Why yes, he and his girlfriend have a new baby boy. It was time to retire.

Default Update

Got a few more details today. Couldn't really get too much into it today because we were on special detail today, but I'll get to that in a second. Turns out it was a murder/suicide. The shooter had apparently grown up with all three victims. There has been speculation that the shooter and one victim were in some form of romantic relationship and this was an arguement that got out of control. All three victims sustained multiple gun shot wounds. Worked with the first depuy that arrived on scene today. All he could really say was that it was messy. Of course, none of the families could believe it happened. The shooters family said "he was a good boy...we had no idea he was capable of this......". It has come to light that the young man did in fact post some violent passages on several folks' facebook pages. I'll update tomorrow after I gt a chance to get in the office......

My special detail today was..........providing security for Obama!!!!!! I was assigned to building security. Never got to see him, thank God. My post was the delivery bay and providing rear security for the Secret Service counter sniper team. Those guys were a real class act! Really friendly and super easy going...most all of the Secret Service guys were really cool except for three dudes who were complete jerks. Overall a neat but boring experience. If you guys have any questions, I'll try to answer them. It was really different than I thought it would be. For example, from the time the Obamanation got there until he left, no one had any phone service. No texting, email, or voice. Even our 800 mhz radios were struggling and they are usually unflappable.
