I like my GI angle head light, what's a drop in LED conversion?
Bulbs are getting hard to find. There's a spare in light, but I like this thing and don't want to get rid of it. It's sturdy enough to let the kids playwith, cost less than the toy versions marketed for kids, and I like the ability to flash morse code with it - when I was a kid flashlights came with instructions for that in the package. ... --- ... Might come in handy one day... or was is --- ... --- eh, I ought look that up.
Anyway, what I want is simple enough. I want to pull the existing bulb and replace it with an LED unit. I'd like to either keep the thing using D cells or else convert it to take AAs. I don't have time to dig through all the flashlight forums and want to keep it simple. I tried proof of concept with the guts from a 5 dollar Rayovac LED 2D light, but that was dimmer than the existing bulbs. Still, I know it'll work, I just don't know what conversion parts I need or where to get them.
Any ideas?
(For those interested, mine is a U.S. made Fulton, but in recent years ones made in the Far East - Taiwan and the PRC - have seen actual issue. Well to the extent that any of these are still issued... )
