Default ID This Antique, Please

My youngest took this "thing" to the Antique Show this past Saturday in Atlanta, they couldn't ID it. It's a brass "thing" - stands about 6/8 inches high with a small figurine on top. It appears to be some sort of thermostat. I told him to send me a picture and most likely some of my many internet friends here likely will tell me what it is or could be. Please take a stab at it. Thanks.

Pete

It's a rectal thermometer. There's a chair with a hole in the middle that originally came with it. It says "NORMAL" over 70 degree mark. So an ancient alien rectal thermometer.

I bet it was originally a newel post cap on the front porch of a very fancy Victorian house.

My first thought was that it might have adorned a cast iron stove, but the numbers appear to be too low for that.

I really don't know, but it's pretty cool ! ! !

Can you take it apart?To me it looks like it might be a thermometer.
70=normal?
It might be for humidity... maybe for cigar humidors?

Although the pictured item does not show any advertisements, it is billed as an "Antique 1924 Metal Advertising Thermometer", as shown here:

This sounds pretty good. Maybe an address goes in that window. Check these out. Maybe it's a variation of one of these mail boxes even though it looks nothing like these.

It measures the number of words the "significant other" says in one minute while you are trying to watch the ballgame.
