Custom Gun Work
Has anyone had any work done by Cylinder and Slide? Also, would you go with a re-blue or a cerami-cote?
Id like to hear from any and all....
TIA - Brian

Brian, tell us what the gun is and its condition. Better a yet, post a pic.
While I have not had any work done by Cylinder & Slide, I have heard only good reports of their workmanship.

They put new sights on my 28-2 this year. Once you send gun they are fast and work is very good. Action job good also, a bit better than my home jobs.

Their reputation is legendary, but so is their wait time. Sure the two are related, but there are other 'smiths and shops that do fantastic work without as great a delay.

Cylinder & Slide used to have a gunsmithing trailer at the old Second Chance Bowling Pin Shoot.
They did several small jobs for me at the match and I was always pleased.
Parkerized an old S&W 1917 for me at their shop in Fremont, Nebraska.
Also a good job.

I used them 20 year ago for my Hi-power...they do good work but are very pricey...I would check around...what you want done isn't all that hard for a decent gunsmith...

They used to bring the trailer to the Masters, and did a lot of good work. I have a friend that had Mod 36 bead blasted and blued and it was a fine job. About a year ago there was an article in one of the major magazines where he build from scratch a Colt 1903 pocket pistol in .45 acp. Every single part machined out and hand fitted. It was gorgeous. I don't think you could go wrong with Cylinder & Slide.

back in the early 1980's I had a Belgium High Power that wasn't very reliable even with hardball let alone trying to get hollow points to work. I sent it to C & S for their basic tune up and it never messed up after I got it back. back then their basic tune up was $200 and it took a couple month. it took that long because it was over xmas. in those days i think Bill was basically a one manshop. no doubt waiting times and prices have probably changed a lot since then. they do very good work

BrianE,
Some of the best SMITHS have waiting time measured from many months to YEARS.
What type of work were you seeking, and on what firearm, and for what purpose. Certain Smiths specialize in Revolvers, others 1911's, Target Firearms, Absolutely Reliable Concealed Carry Firearms, Restored Antiques, Custom One-Off Masterpieces.
Please supply more information and I'm sure a forum member can supply you with an answer. One last thing "What's your Budget for the work"? Some Smiths are NOT CHEAP by a long shot but their work and reputation commands the price that they ask and receive.
