What else was I supposed to do?
Seeing post after post from people living in free states who can purchase handguns whenever they have the cash and feel the urge - I was starting to feel a tinge of jealousy. We in New Jersey, you see, are not trusted to buy handguns on a whim, not even S&W's.
So I got this .270 made in 1958/9.
Not as nice as another S&W, but what's a fella in Jersey supposed to do?

There is a completely legal way around the roster for both bottom feeders and the older S&W revolvers. Just need the right FFL.

No C&R allowed in NJ.
If they were allowed I'd really be in trouble.

Just drive up to Saritelies and ask for Silvio Dante or Paulie Walnuts, caution (Customer Service is below average)

At the risk of being disowned by the forum, I'd have to kindly disagree. That rifle is SWEET!!! You're on your own with the Jersey thing, however.

Because it is a late pre-64 Featherweight it has the plastic butt pad instead of the traditional aluminum inletted plate, but I'm not complaining.

That must have changed recently, a few years back when I got the C&R bug I submitted the app and after about two weeks got a call from the local ATF agent in Newark, who told me that my application and paperwork were all in order but that NJ treats a class III the same as a class I and would need all the insurance and security system/safe requirements as a class I dealer, he was calling to verify that I wanted to go forward before processing the application. At that point I just told him "No thanks" if I had known I would have to do all that I would never have applied.

The pre-64 model 70 is the Registered Magnum of the Winchester line. You did just fine.
