Two Iconic PA Brands In One Bottle

Just tried a Yuengling Porter with Hershey's chocolate flavoring added.

It's different . I can taste the Hershey's syrup, which I think is much better than Hershey's chocolate bars. I think that this is a beer where you only drink one.

It's too sweet for me, but it's a cool concept. I suppose that it would make a good milkshake with some Turkey Hill ice cream, another PA institution.

I was at a beer festival about five or six years ago, lots of local brewers, and had a beer with chocolate flavoring. It wasn't sweet, but you could taste the chocolate. Was surprisingly good, but not good enough to make me seek it out again.

I guess I just prefer beer that tastes like beer.

Yuengling is available in my town here in Maryland, and I've seen that chocolate stuff...but haven't been tempted to buy it.

To me, the idea of "chocolate beer" is about as appealing as broccoli-flavored ice cream...

I saw that in the beer dist. the other day. I had to do a double-take. I would taste it but that's about as far as I could go I think. I do love the Hershey's Syrup though! It sounds like something the trendies around here would pretend to like.
For the record, I don't think fruit belongs in beer, either. Or pumpkin! Hops, barley, grains, etc. only. You know, beer.
Now Turkey Hill with something like, oh, broccoli; that I would run to the store in my bare feet for! Pffft!

I tried this combination too and enjoyed it. But I think it was a limited edition product. I don't think I've seen it in a long while.

I've had a chocolate stout once, don't recall who brewed it. My impression was that it was a chick beer, kinda like the pumpkin spic ales that pop up every fall. Meh!

Definitely sounds interesting. Luckily one beer of any make is about all I can stomach. Might as will make it one of those. Where’d you find it, an asian market?

The distributor I most often go to still has a stack of cases of this beer as of yesterday, 11/16/2021. Right across the river about a mile on Rt. 8 North. First time I saw it the dude said it's not exactly flying out the door. The last time I bought any Yuengling was to get a free T-shirt for my daughter; and that was only a 12-pack which I gave to my buddy's son after drinking some of one bottle. My Daisy Dog liked it, though! (For the record, she has never turned down ANY beer; also, I only give her maybe a cup or so. Weimaraners are German so that's probably where she gets her love of beer.)

Maybe Founder's Breakfast Stout?

No it was a freebie. A guy at work bought a 6 pack, didn't care for it, and brought the rest in. I took one home to try.

Not too many Asian markets in Scranton PA LOL.

I have a Pennsylvania Dutch wife who's fond of Yuengling when she can get it. I showed her this thread and she doubts she'd go beyond one sip. She likes the way Yuengling tastes.

About 10 years ago I had never heard of Yuengling Beer until I found myself in Pottsville, Pa. I tried some of the Lager and loved it. Toured the brewery and got an old repro sign and a T-shirt. I brought back 12 cases of quarts and was worried I might be busted for bootlegging on the way home. I would put a couple of quarts in the fridge and pour the beer into a frosted mug. Yuengling opened a brewery somewhere in Florida and it is now obtainable in Mississippi. No more bootlegging. I don't drink as much beer as I used to but when I do its Yuengling. Good stuff. The oldest brewery in the US.

I did the brewery tour about 20 years ago on the way up to Cooperstown, NY.

I had a few frosty mugs of Yuengling draft with supper at the Eagles tonight.

When in Oregon, Deschutes Brewery's Black Butte Porter is tops for dark beer. I used to bring it back by the case(s).

I like good Root Beer. You can’t buy it anymore because of some ingredients are cancer causing. So when several brands came out with Root Beer Beer I was first to try. Terrible stuff as all the other designer fruit flavors and such. Tastes like cough medicine. I’ll stick to my Rolling Rock made with pure mountain spring water, in the glass lined tanks of old Latrobe, Pa that is.

I hate to break it to you, but RR has not been brewed in Latrobe since the mid-2000's.

It's brewed by Anheiser Busch in...Newark NJ

I remember having root beer beer at the American Legion in Emmitsburg, MD. I remember it being very smooth. Actually too smooth. It seemed like it would have been easy to get snockered real quick from that stuff.

Not sure, but didn't Iron City move their brewing out to Latrobe in that brewery? I don't think IC Brewery (Pittsburgh Brewing Co.) is doing anything anymore over there on Liberty Avenue. I used to love that nasty yeast/malt brewing smell emanating out of that place. It always reminded me of when I was pre kindergarten age when my dad used to make beer in the cellar laundry room back in New Brighton.
I always have Hershey Syrup here. One day soon I think I may try to make some Hershey Busch Light. Sounds like a good breakfast beer.

Yes, Pittsburgh Brewing is in the old Latrobe brewery.
AFAIK the old brewery on Liberty Ave is dormant.
When I lived in Bloomfield sometimes you could smell it. That and the LTV Coke Works in Hazlewood really stank.

A Texas brewery, Shiner, partnered with the Collin Street Bakery to make a fruitcake flavored porter. Not awful but the one six pack will be all I need.
