Gas, goods shortages and inflation rant!
Fat, dumb and happy as usual this morning, I took my occasional jaunt over to my local Sam's club to buy some stuff and get some gas. It's been my experience here in the Phoenix area that Sam's has pretty much the best price on gas you can get.
Well, I tried to pull into the gas lanes at Sam's. The whole gas area was blocked off with yellow tape. The good news is the price of gas there. The bad news is that there isn't any. They said they were still waiting for the delivery truck. Well, *****.
I sauntered into the store to buy my items. First item: some Ensure vitamin shakes. I usually get a few cartons so I have a good supply at home. Arriving at the area where the stuff is shelved, I found it empty except for one lonely carton, and it wasn't the flavor I like. I bought it anyway - the very last one on the shelf. Well, ****.
On to the soft drink isle. We were out of root beer, which the wife and I really love - and guess what? They didn't have any. This was starting to get nasty. Well, ****.
The other stuff I could find turned out to be substantially more expensive than I had found it for in the past. Well, ****.
I then went over to the liquor area to get one of my favorite bourbons at the Sam's discount price. Guess what? No gottum, Mr. customer. Well ****.
One of my favorite treats is cherry turnovers, which Sam's has been selling for years. There was only one package left - I got the last one, and it was a day past the "sell by" date on the package. Well *****.
Much disgruntled, I started on the journey home. I was nearly out of gas, so I stopped at the nearest Shell station on the way home. The price of gas there was $3.699 a gallon. I needed 12 gallons, and the cost the pump rang up was $47.88. Well ****.
Just for giggles, will each of you post here what the going price in your area is for a gallon of gas????
I just stopped myself from posting a comment that would be sure to put me over the top of my allowable dings, and yes, it would have been political. Grrrr.
John

Kingman, AZ: $3.25 last week, $3.44 last Friday, yesterday $3.48, today who knows? Sometimes it's one price in the morning, by afternoon it's gone up again. I predict it will be close to 5 bucks by Christmas.

I use 93 octane in my only car, which is locally priced at $4.09 per gallon. Thank gosh I only need to fill up every 3-4 weeks. Yet last time it cost almost $40.00. My heart goes out those of you who have to drive many miles a week.
I've started to notice some major price increases on many items on my weekly shopping list as well as spot shortages on some items. I never thought of my self as hoarder, but I am starting to buy "pre-need" on some staples. I hope things start to return to some of normal, whatever that may have been.

Paid over $4/gal for premium unleaded the other day. I haven't had to buy diesel for the truck in a while, but I will this weekend. It looks like diesel has pushed over $4/gal as well.
Infuriating because this was 100% avoidable.

Living rural our price is high here because of delivery miles. We try to get gas when we drive about 25 miles to civilization.
At our local station yesterday 87 was $3.49 and the good None E highest was $4.30. I will only get None E gas for making up 2 stroke mixtures, the ATV and storage. I bought 15 galls in 5 gallon cans. Swap it out as time goes by to keep my stabilized gas fresh.

Central Kentucky (stay out of Louisville when possible), it was $2.86 when I left this morning. Further south & east I'm paying $3.06 for the return trip to home.
Grocery shopping is hit & miss as far as what you're actually "looking for". Prices are definitely up.

Considering the average age of this forums members, its safe to say everyone remembers laughing at the soviets empty shelves, and the endless supply of toilet paper jokes. Now who's laughing at who!

When I filled up with diesel at Sam's last week it was $3.72/gallon, regular was $3.76. Wife paid $3.90 to put premium in her SUV Sunday. Yes, there are things in short supply. I'm no longer all that surprised or annoyed about it.

Well, I've read all the postings so
far. But the OP certainly has
suffered the most at Sam's:
No favorite bourbon
No favorite cherry turnovers
No root beer

Our gas here was $3.19 a gallon. Was at Sam's Club this weekend and all the shelves were stocked full of merchandise. However, we have a port that is operating properly. Different coast.

I'm old enough to remember gas for less than 30 cents a gallon. I can also remember fuel, gas and diesel, well over 4 dollars a gallon in 2007. Believe it or not price of fuel goes up and comes down. I'm thankful to be retired and don't have to drive to work anymore.

I can remember gas wars in the late 60's with gas at $0.17 a gallon. I sure there are some here that can remember it lower than that.

Diesel is $3.95 a gallon here. Heck!! It was $2.15 less than a year ago!! Oh well. If I can't get fuel, I guess I can always saddle up one of the mules and have one of the grandkids ride the 11 miles into town for supplies.

87 octane at Giant Eagle New Albany (suburban Columbus) $3.17, I used bonus points and got 50 cents cheaper! Filled up the truck and empty 5 gallon cans!
But the pharmacy is out of my wife's Glaucoma eye drops, that could get serious!

Here in the Dallas Ft. Worth metroplex, Gas prices vary from $ to 3.399/gal to $.3.099/gal If you have saved your Kroger gas points, it can be as low as $2.999/gal. Aint inflation wonderful? The official Consumer P4rice Index doesn't count energy prices "because they are so volatile". Even so, on my weekly grocery store trip this morning prices were up noticeably since last week. Great - inflation, in real terms is running about 10%, and the Government, in their charitable manner, granted me a 4.95% increase in my Social Security Check for next year. By my figures, I am falling behind by better than 5% per annum. Life is just so rosy.

Colorado:
Pueblo at $3.69.
Colorado Springs at $3.49
Denver at $3.19
All within the past two weeks. All situated on the I-25 corridor, served by the same pipelines and delivery networks.
Populations and volume of sales seems to make a big difference.

If I drive 30 miles to the next county, on a almost empty tank................
I can get gas at 30 cents a gallon cheaper.
Is my time and driving worth $6 ?
One's got to know his priorities............
and what game is on.

Just drove back to DFW from Houston on Monday. You can find $2.99 without too much trouble but many places are more.
I have a feeling these shortages are partially, and probably majorly, due to transportation and labor shortages. I discovered today that my local Wally World's back room is stuffed to the gills, while the shelves are barren. They don't have enough people to stock the shelves. Your Sam's Club delayed gasoline may be due to lack of a driver. Gasoline inventories aren't especially low.

Grrrr.

I'm trying to imagine someone in a poor, third world country hearing this all.
Yup, You have it terrible. My heart bleeds.
I just finished dinner, and am sitting in a nice warm, dry place, with a soft bed in the next room.
All Thanks for that goes to God.

Central Arkansas, regular is $3.09 a gallon, a few miles down the road it's .10-.15 cents cheaper. My truck has a 36 gallon tank and I fill up at a 1/4 tank otherwise it chews up a $100.00 bill to top it off.
