Downstairs kitchen gun is a M10 S&W fully loaded. In the headboard of bed is a Glock 22 with a loaded magazine and empty chamber. When I wake up I am a zombie until I've had a BIG cup of coffee. I would rather have the gun I grab in that condition be in Condition Three, until the adrenaline kicks in, which I imagine would happen fairly quickly. Then I can chamber a round and deal with the threat. I also have an M1 Carbine with two loaded magazines available in the bedroom.
Bedroom is upstairs. No way is somebody getting in my house in the middle of the night without waking somebody up, giving us plenty of warning. I'm going to have time to chamber a round.
When I am carrying I always have a round in the chamber of a semi-auto. To do otherwise would be ridiculous, in my opinion. (Unless you're Jack Bauer on 24, he NEVER had a round in the chamber).

The glock on bedside table does not have a round chambered. I just don't wake up crystal clear, don't need to handle a gun that "hot" for a second. Have been thinking about switching out to a revolver anyway. Will think about it more seriously.

I do carry pistols with a chambered round. I do not keep the shotgun chambered by the bedside.

I would guess everyone except those that can see the future or maybe a politician who may can bore the bad guy with a speech until he either runs away or falls asleep.

Our bedroom is upstairs too and there are 3 dogs downstairs.
We (wife & I) have worked out tactics that insure that the poor ******* that breaks in will NEVER know what hit him (or her).
Racking a slide just let's the bg know where you are.
NEVER GIVE A GOBLIN AN EVEN BREAK!

A handgun with an empty chamber is a very small club.

In addition to being more ready, a chambered round also increases magazine capacity +1.

If your worried about handling a loaded firearm when you first wake up i dont suggest a revolver! Most of the revolvers ive handled dont have safetys so you might be worse off!

I DO
I do keep a round chambered in my 3913. I also shoot and use a revolver for home, personal defense. Seeing as both guns are DA/SA, the double action pull acts as my safety. I added a spurred hammer to my 3913. As a revolver is ready to shoot with no manual safety, so it goes with my auto. All guns are locked up if they are at my side.

Yeah the saftey is much easier to handle than popin a round in. Id rather flick the thumb up instead of takin the sights down and cockin the slide back! Revolvers ya just point and shoot which is better. More accurate too. Damn i want a revolver bad!

I do but my wife doesn't. So if I wake up on her side of the bed I'll have to remember to rack the 1911!

Every firearm I own is loaded to the top with a round in the chamber.

I carry my 1911s in an Adams Holsters Texas rig.
Texas IWB(inside the waistband) Holster
Best quality and comfort I have ever seen.

Absolutely! Doing it any other way is like keeping an empty milk jug in the fridge, and the cow out back in the barn.

I always keep a round chambered. As others have said, in a self-defense situation, you may not have time to chamber a round.
