This show is becoming less about Zombies and more of a study of human survival and coexistence during a total societal breakdown. Most of the problems they have are between themselves and other non-infected people.

And, honestly, I see that being how it would be in ANY societal collapse.

Good episode! It was nice to see Shane get his due. It also appears that the virus has mutated and is airborne because Shane and the kid came back as zombies immedietly after dying. Funny thing, the kid's head was sitting pretty straight up for having been broken by Shane, not a few hours before.

This is "Earth Abides" but with Zombies. Maybe even "Alas Babylon" with Zombies.

Wasn't the dead horse or cow (couldn't tell) that Dale came upon just before his death acting a bit odd? Could the virus be vectoring to animals now?

Shane's demise was overdue. The TV series is only generally following the books, but in the books Carl kills a living Shane and Rick later kills zombie Shane.

If the series follows the spirit of the books, then major characters will be killed off regularly. The books are still going now, and I think Rick and Carl are the only originals left. (And Rick is down to one hand, and Carl had half his face shot off.)

New characters are added in as things bump along. Next season is supposed to introduce Michonne and The Governor, two biggies from the written version.

I am wondering if Shane and Randall's quick zombification has anything to do with what Jenner whispered in his ear last season. Maybe he told Rick that the virus had gone airborne. I also wonder what it has to do with the "flashes" that Shane saw before he turned. I think the last episode this season will give us a few new twists.

Some of my buds are semi-preppers. They say .22lr will be the one of the best trade goods. Most have 2000 to 20,000 cartridges saved up.
Buy a 550 round bulk pack of .22lr every month, it doesn't take long to have a bunch.

I always thought that if .22lr is good, then 12ga is a trump.
Just about everybody I know that has guns. Has a .22lr and a 12ga. shotgun.

If you want to survive you never want to be in a gun fight. You run from threats. You sneak and peek.

I try too keep ~ 1000 rounds of 12ga. at all times.

I like the show, but would do things completely different. I would set up a fortified compound, then find a combine....

and go harvest some zombies.

The last episode blew my mind. 2 main characters dead in 2 episodes. I'm glad they don't hold back on that though. PS .22 lr is maybe great for shooting a zombie but what about the other guy with a 7.62 AR who wants your gear? There's a reason the military doesn't issue .22s for primary or secondary firearms. Plus it'd be nice to shoot a deer or pig once in awhile for food.

Jon Bernthal (Shane) joins a 1st season producer for a new AMC cop show about LAPD & gangster Mickey Cohen. Mazeltov, Jon, you could not portray a good ol' boy very well anyway.

Carl's gun looks more like a Hi-Power with the SFS system installed. The stubby hammer and ambi safety is a dead giveaway. My friend has a HP with the SFS, and it's a really neat safety system. The way it works(if memory serves me correctly)is that a round is chambered like a normal HP but when the hammer is pushed forward, the safety lever raises. When it is to be fired, clicking the safety to 'fire' cocks the hammer and it can be shot like a regular Hi-Power.

Yeah, I've been wondering about those words whispered to Rick in the season 1 finale. If you recall, Jenner (the guy who was left at the CDC) made all the folks give blood for testing when they entered the facility. At first, I thought that he said something about Rick's wife being pregnant. Then, when Rick's wife discovered she was pregnant this season, I just figured that my guess at the end of season 1 was correct and that's what he whispered. But, after Rick's reaction when he discovered she was pregnant, it became clear that the whisper was about something else. I now believe that he whispered something about how they suspect that the virus can be spread without a direct bite, perhaps just by close contact with a Walker.

By the way, am I crazy or wasn't there discussion early in season 1 about not allowing any Walker blood to get in any open wound or cut. Sometime in the middle of that season they quit talking about it and the hand to hand combat and knife sticking started. In fact, it may have been in the episode entitled "Guts" that there was discussion about avoiding having Walker blood even get on your skin. Hum ? ? ?

It's got so crazy at the Ford dealership I work for that, when we can't find a customer in the service dept. lounge, we all say "we have a Walker".

Think sundays episode is the season end. They keep talking about this other group. Be interesting when and if the two groups meet and how they will deal with each other. Been wondering when the group will be getting any semi auto long guns. Think only one of the group has one. pistols, revolvers, pump shotguns and a crossbow. Should be interesting. Frank

I forgot who said it, but they're right. There's a reason the military and LEO aren't issued .22s, although accurate. Not NEARLY enough power to put down something living without a perfectly placed shot.

That being the case you have to find a happy medium between power and accuracy... enter the 9mm, lol. There's a reason military and LEOs are issued 9mm firearms as a standard side weapon. Big enough hole left behind without sacrificing too much accuracy.

The perfect balance, lol.

In this world of the show, it would seem to be the perfect pistol would be an FN 5.7 20 rounds in the mag of low recoil, high speed cartridge. Since the walkers in the show seem to drop only from a head shot, large caliber isn't as important as accuracy, low recoil, and high capacity.

That was Herschels son, Jimmy I think was his name. Season 3 will be the best to come. They have added a killer character from the comic series (hooded woman with leashed zombies for pets) and it looks like they may be ending up taking refuge at a prison, aka more guns.

And did anyone notice the 3rd gen S&W that the african american character (forget his name) was carrying. I believe that is a 3913 that has been used previously in the show. Can't remember who it was holding it but Rick was held at gunpoint with it when he was still wearing his uniform. It was on display at the SHOT show this year in a small display within the larger S&W area.

Smith and Wesson 31-1 with a 3" bbl in .32 SW Long would be better for the long term. 5.7mm ammuntion isn't exactly common, though I suppose the various .32 caliber ammo isn't horribly common either. But the 5.7mm isn't the easiest caliber to reload for, and will certainly need more in the way of tools than the bullet mold, wooden block, pliers, and nail that could keep a .32 revolver running.

There's also the advantage of a very minimal report.

Jimmy wasn't Hershel's son. He was the boyfriend of one of the other (non-Maggie) women. Which ever one wasn't involved with Otis.

Michonne! This should be good!

If T-Dog was carrying a 3913 (and I tentatively agree with you) then it formerly belonged to Andrea who put it aside in favor of a Beretta 92 after Shane started training her.

Sir, following that reasoning, a .38 special would make more sense than a .32. Much easier to find .38 bullets and brass, and bullets intended for the 9 mm, .38 Super, .357 Sig, or even .380 could be used in a pinch. Seems like that could be useful in a catch-as-catch-can existence.

Gun-wise, a Ruger Blackhawk convertible in .357/9 mm might be the ultimate scrounger's gun. It could shoot 9 mm, .38 special, .357, and (maybe--not all .357s will chamber it) .38 Super ammo. Couple that with the reloading possibilities, and you'd have lots of different ways to keep it fed.

JMHO, FWIW.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

I can't wait for season 3. I like how in the beginning of this last episode they showed the herd of zombies building from a few to a huge number. It will be interesting to see the turn Rick takes since it appears now that most of the group despises him. Also the hooded character has got to be a real twist.

I have read the graphic novels, so I do not want to give anything away, but there was a huge hint at the very end of last nights show. And yes, you will love the hooded figure. Andrea is very safe...

After watching this episode I am sure none of the writers every tried to shoot from a moving vehicle! Was a great demonstration of marksmanship.

They do so many things WRONG that it's a bit annoying to watch. I know... "It's fantasy". But so much of what they do is plain stupid.

Shane and Rick as former cops...You would think they would have some knowledge of weapons, tactics, even simply SITUATIONAL AWARENESS. They run around half prepared and unaware most of the time.

Their vehicles are not modified in any way to allow them some safety from the Walkers either. Not like they haven't had TIME to get prepared. And at the Farm I'd bet you could find the tools and metal to modify the vehicles.

I'd surely carry a hi cap 9mm as a sidearm, but IMHO a 9mm carbine or an AR/AK74 with an Aimpoint would be pretty perfect for whacking Walkers. A long , edged weapon would be a nice backup too.

A good .22 rim fire MAG semi auto rifle with enough mags would be just the ticket as well. Enough power to get into the brain, ammo very light and easy to carry.

Next season looks good already. I liked the two armless walkers on a leash!!

When asked about the new attitude Rick has and how it will develop into the new season, the director said they were calling it the "Ricktatorship".

AMC needs to come out with an equally awesome show that runs during the summer months when I have to sit around waiting 7 months for Walking Dead to return.

Plenty of good stuff to watch this summer while we wait, The Killing, Falling Skies, Mad Men. Can't beat cable TV. Record and watch at your leisure.

Well, I don't know what you thought of last years show but they are going to return Falling Skies in June. It was halfway decent science fiction. Same show basically, world apocalypse, people trying to survive but instead of walkers it has aliens and people are "harnessed" (mind controlled). Spielberg is involved in some way with the production.

Regarding The Walking Dead, the producers and writers were going to kill off Herschel but said every time they tried to write it, it just wasn't working. Then they said the scene where the characters were riding off and Herschel was looking back at the burning barn was worth not following the comic and killing him.

I love that show and have to watch it with a grain of salt.

No one seems to be worried about being infected by zombie blood anymore?

You'd think they'd spend more time building themselves a little fortress instead of... what do they do again during the day? Complete with moat and fence or somthing.

Do they plan at all? Where was their fallback position? They have one big battle and now they are almost all out of ammo? Saferoom? Treefort? I'd think you could live like some ewoks in the trees. Elves from lord of the rings?

Was there no other farms in the area? they spent 1/2 of the season begging Herschel to let them stay. Get some seeds from him and move 1/2 mile down the road.

o.k. my complaining is done. Now they are off the old boring farm. It was pretty cool when they opened the barn and destroyed all of the walkers at the season's 1/2 way point. And the mysterious hooded person (I would have said guy but I'm not too sure it's not a woman) with walkers chained to him/her. who has the right idea battling with a ninja sword. And rick proclaiming ricktatorship. Something snap? He didn't bother stressing how Shane took him out to kill him very much.

I've avoided the comics as I always found myself comparing Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings based on what they did in the book. Much more fun not knowing what's coming next.

Looking forward to season 3!

The comics are a vague outline.
They have deviated from them in major ways.
Reading the comics wont hurt anything.

I can't wait for next season. The arrival of Michonne and the glimpse of the prison give me hope for a great run of episodes.

i can't wait for falling skies now that this is over until october...

as far as them preparing, they thought they were safe. no if's, and's, or buts. no need to fortify cars or anything else. you are safe on that farm as the other farms are already over run. the from reading the comics "cliff notes", the future holds a lot of changed for the group i the prison and elsewhere while living in the prison.

michonne, the hooded figure that saves andrea is a female character and fan fav. she kicks some major butt.

there is a lot of deviation from the comics, but they are, so far, loosely holding true to the characters that die, just not the timeline

you can dl them for most readers for about $2 each or about $10 for the volumes...there are around 93ish issues in the series and 23 volumes i believe...
