I have some gun news to share.
Dear s&w Forum, I have some gun news to share with my fellow forum members. I recently purchased a brand new .22 caliber revolver. It is not the s&w 617 that i had been saving up to buy. My new .22 revolver is a rough rider single action revolver made by heritage manufacturing and it has a 3 inch barrel and bird head grips and it comes with 2 cylinders one for .22 long rifle ammunition and a 22 magnum cylinder. An to be honest with you folks i love it. sincerely and respectfully mg357 a proud member of the s&w forum.

I've got a couple of Heritages now- and they are good shoot'n little pieces. I'm thinking of getting one of their .32 Magnums and putting a scope on it if it shoots good- a varmint killer for sure!

Congrats on your new purchase. I have seen some of those guns and they look like they could be a lot of fun. The magnum cylinder is nice, and there might be a time when you want it in the gun if you use it as a "house gun" or whatever. But the cost of .22 mag ammo is prohibitive. On the other hand, I can't think of a cheaper way to have a good day shooting than a single action revolver and a brick of .22 long rifle. I hope you enjoy it.

I was given one that has the 6 1/2 inch barrel. Has the interchangeable cylinders. I've never owned nor shot a 22 magnum revolver before and it's a hoot to shoot! Shoots to point of aim with both Winchester and CCI ammo. My only problem is I have to rear my head back to use my bifocals to see the fixed sights!

Good deal! I like the fact it has two cylinders. The 22 MAG is a potent rim fire cartridge and you shoot the regular 22 LR for next to nothing.
Enjoy!

Hey! I just bought a used Heritage Rough Rider 6.5" from my brother a couple weeks ago! He had it for a little over a year and probably put about 8k rounds through it. It IS a nice little shooter, and you cant beat the price! They start at around $175 new, I paid $100 for mine with the box and all the papers that came with it. Couldnt be happier to add a good shooter to my thus far miniscule collection.

I have a longer bbl one. In theory they are illegal for dealers to sell here in SC b/c of the melting point of the frame. (Yes, really.) That law doesn't seem that enforced since one still sees them for sale. I bought mine from a private party so it didn't matter anyway.
One was promptly featured being used to harvest alligators in the swamp on the History Channel. The blonde kid with the tooth missing had one that he borrowed. Seemed to be a good game getter with .22 mags. (At 10 dollars a box of 50 .22 Mag isn't that bad of a deal I suppose.)
They are not as well made as the Rugers, but the Rugers cost considerably more. Most people that have one like it.
If I had a chance to get a 3" one with birdshead grips I would.
The company is now offering a 45Colt/.410 model as well.

What you see in SC is the steel framed version.
Steel Frames - Heritage Manufacturing, Inc
The steel frames are just a bit more expensive. The .32 Mags are only available in a steel frame.

Congratulations on your purchase. Sounds like a nice gun for a nice guy. Don't get no better than that. I love .22's just like everybody I know does. My .22 rifle has killed more deer than any other gun I own. I have had it 52 years and it still shoots like new. It's a Sears and Roebuck Ranger. It was used when I got it for Christmas in 1959.
Please pray for America,
Gordon

A retired judge friend of mine purchased a 617 a couple of months ago on my advice. It had to go back to S&W before it was right, which was sort of an unfortunate hassle as she is a woman only just getting into shooting. Glad the Heritage is working out for you.
